Traffic Penalty

Help!  My husband and I were in Madrid in September 2011 and have been charged from Hertz for two Traffic Penalties.  We have never received any notices stating we were in violation.  Cannot locate the penalty notice codes on line.  We live in USA.. are we responsible for the traffic fines we never were notified about or is this a Scam from Hertz?  Any information would be most helpful.  Thank you.

 Ask them for a copy of the fine they received from the Trafico.

They said they do not have them. Only charged us to provide them our car rental information.  I will try a different agent, maybe more helpful.  Thank you for your suggestion.

I would assume Hertz have taken the money from your credit card.  If this is the case, I would suggest you complain to the credit card company. 

I believe that when one buys anything (including a service) on a credit card the contract is between the card holder and the card company.

Thank you for the suggestion.  I'm going to work that angle today.

If they can't prove the traffic offence then you should process a chargeback on your credit card. 

As John says, talk to your credit card company.

Can anyone tell me a website where I can see if the Penalty Code even exists?

I can't find anything on the trafico website to check those codes but checking them on Google.es brings up nothing, so I suspect they may be internal Hertz codes instead?

Our speeding fines when using a hire car were issued direct to us in UK by the traffico, I assume they obtained our UK contact details from Europcar.
