To qualify for the winter fuel allowance this year you have to have been born on or before 5th Jan 1952, The date changes every year so the age is increasing in line with the increase in age of entitlement to state retirement pension, What annoys me as a 55 year old woman is that instead of having to wait 5 years I will now have to wait 11 years to receive anything as my qualfiying age is now 66, Not just that but to qualify for a full pension my "working life" has been extended so instead of needing 30 full years of national insurance I now need 35 full years.

Lijaloo. I would not worry too much, the chances are they will abolish the WFA quite soon,
As for the increase in age before you get your pension. Again don't worry too much you stand to live longer than us born, substantailly, before you !!!!

April 2016. The Month and year I reach 65 and retire. But their again, I might carry on working as working past 65 I think I am right in saying that you don't pay National insurance anymore. So as I see it with pension being paid and No NI Payments. I see that as a good pay rise. Same applies to the wife in 12 months time. I already qualify for Free Prescriptions. I think the Government should bring in Free dental care for the over 60's. Just to say that I have worked hard all my life and never any time unemployed. All I have to do now is stay alive to reap what is rightfully mine. I worked for it.
As for WFA. I will continue to enjoy until Hell freezes over and I am skateing with the Devil

El alamillo, you're right you don't pay NI after 65 if you continue to work but your state retirement pension is taxable income.

I think that I will be sharing the Ice with the Devil for some time then. I think the non payment of NI should cover any short fall. I already pay Basic rate. Don't think that the OAP will push me into the Super Tax bracket. Might even delay pension payment.
As long as Ryan Air & Jet 2 are still flying to Spain. Think I will ask my Doctor to include Flights to Spain on my Free Prescription every month LOL.

Free flights on prescription, great idea! From April 2016 the full state pension is also going to be around £144 pw up from £110 so more good news for you, both of us miss out on that by 3 months.
