The following information has been released

General Council of Notaries:               “Spanish home sales up 59pc in January”

Instituto Nacional de Estadistica:       “Spanish home sales down 23pc in January”

Goes to show what a bloody joke the ‘authorities’ are. A couple of % difference we could accept but this crazy deficit from two ‘leading’ sources (or should that be misleading), just proves that no information that is released can be trusted.

It may not be what you think.

I believe Notaries figures will come from contracts signed in the actual month whereas Statistic Office figures will come from properties registered in the property registries. There is of course a delay between the two.  So both may be right.

Just a thought.

Fair shout John but even so, a tolerance of + or - 41% is plain mad! If these are the sales figures, God knows by what percentage house price increase/decreases figures will conflict when they roll out the next  'good news'

What sort of a signal does this shambles send out to foreign investors?

Unless of course, which is very likely, one is dealing with a very small number of sales.  4 sales this month against 2 last is a 100% increase.

Heres a Statistic ask how many people are gay in the Bar we go to and 99% will say they are gay, go to a pub next door which is not a gay bar and only 20% may say they are gay

Do you get my point

Love Hugh

Your point, I presume, is that all sorts of conclusions (almost certainly all of them wrong) can be drawn from that. But as
we all know, 76.3% of all statistics are made up anyway ;-)

On other threads there appear to be sales occurring without the necessary paperwork in place (LFO's), so could these properties be missing off official property registries?

As someone once said " there are lies, then damn lies, then statistics. Take them with a pinch of salt. Cheers !
