Berlingo - rear parcel shelf problem

I have just bought a used Citroen Berlingo and the plastic lugs that hold the luggage cover or parcel shelf in place are missing. I need to use the luggage cover for security reasons to conceal when I have luggage etc in the car. The parts missing are just small plastic parts measuring about 30mm. They are attached to the cover and fit into a recess to hold the cover in place.

I went to the citroen dealer and they said you have to buy the whole luggage cover as the parts I need are not sold separately. They said that it would cost 193 euros plus vat.

I am posting on this forum as I know that the Berlingo is a favourite of expats and this must be a common problem which others have experienced. Does anyone know where or how I can get these replacement parts?

The Citroen Berlingo is a very popular car in Spain and I was surprised when I contacted four big car breakers to hear that none of them had any in stock. Maybe this says something about the car.

Are there any Berlingo owners out there that experienced this problem or who have a parcel shelf they don't use.

Hi Paddyw.

Not familiar with this model of parcel shelf or the lugs you mention but I have repaired a good few other shelfs and the shelf holding side brackets that have had what sounds a similar problem to yours.

 I used a piece of wooden dowl rod, if not the correct size a piece trimmed down, perhaps insert a screw through it for extra strength, might have to glue them in as well. Also I have used a cut down metal bolt on some shelfs, these tend to self-tap themselves in, done correctly.

Might give you some ideas rather then spend the money.

Sorry to digress, but I'd like to know why someone has put a 'dislike' on the suggestion below. Presumably the person who put the 'dislike' has a better idea, so why not be constructive and share this information? One thing I like about this site is that you can put anything, even a little problem like this, on it and some people will take the time to help and this can ease someone else' little burdens a bit - it all adds to the greater harmony of the universe.

I don't normally digress either Eggcup, but it's not rocket science is it!! Baz always gets the thumbs down. If he posted the winning lottery numbers before the draw he still would!. Come on Eggcup it don't take a detective to work it out!!

It's from my new found friend Dopey, fact is I am quite disappointed that it's only the one every now and again, but if it please's the small mind to do this then at least it's made someone's day.
