Propane gas bottle for BBQ
The Comments |
Can anyone advice on the best place to buy propane gas bottle from?
there is the local petrol station, but is it more expensive than the back roads?
finally, do you have to register the first bottle, similar to calor gas in uk ?
cheers

Hi Paul
If you go to your nearest CEPSA or Repsol depot you should be able to get a New Contract and a new bottle without a problem. Then you can just change it at the garage or the Depot when it runs out.

The price of bottled gas is regulated in Spain so you pay the same everywhere. However, some places charge a "handling fee" of up to 50 centimos. Some charge, some don't.
The initial will cost almost €50 including contract fee. If you look at expat sites in your area you will often find empty ones for sale at about €10.

The official Repsol price to change a traditional 12kg bottle of butane is 14.11€ they have come down about 4 euro since 2011 - 11kg propane bottles are around 2€ cheaper.
Maridav is right, easy to pick up a empty one for around 10€ or less
If you do decide to get a new contract they may well want your NIE number if you have one.

Many thanks for all your help and prompt replies, I will try and find an empty bottle for sale.
Otherwise I will just have to bite the bullet and register for one.

You are sure to find an empty bottle for sale at any local carboot sale. Could always ask other Brits in your area and bet someone will be only too pleased to sell you an empty one.
To register just for BBQ use is impractical.

Whilst you can buy, a Butano gas 'bottles' at say a car boot sale, and then use technically illegally, you can also buy Camping Gaz in smaller ‘bottles' and a regulator from many Ferreterías. If you are not a big user one might find these more practical, as they are of course much lighter to carry, and work just the same as the larger 'bottles'.
