Windtalker, I live in the UK, visit Spain very often, as much as I can.
Witherspoon's....What can I say, I served in the Royal Marines for 19 years so you can imagine I have eaten most stuff thats walked..Crawled..Flown...You name it..I have eaten it. I did go to the spoons once, never been before, treated to lunch ....Well thats what the menu called it anyway, it was first grade slop, the drinks glass was dirty, the glass stuck to the table top due to the slime on the table, so did my sweat shirt.
I took it all back and asked for the chef to come and have a chat, he wouldn't come out, the manager wouldn't come out. The offer I made them got my full money back.
Now if you really want to go to a place that makes the spoons look like the Savoy, check out the 'Bandstand' greater Manchester, might suit you if you like the spoons.
Next time I fell like getting a strange exotic disease I might visit the spoons again.

WHY, on a thread titled " Thinking of buying on Mazarron Country Club " is Camposol mentioned.?
Every time any poster asks about details of relocating to Spain talking about this ghetto styled estate full of folk from UK becomes the main subject where because it is far from civilisation the bars and shops are more expensive than elsewhere in Spain.
Okay, so the odd person loves it but there is MORE to Spain than Camposol which actually appears to have more problems with legality, flooding and property subsidence than all other urbs in this enormous country.
For goodness sake..enough is enough. Just answer folks queries without the pretence that Camposol is Utopia....because it certainly isn't.

So windtalker, you wanted a list of Asda v Consum. Well, in my wife's coat pocket was an Asda receipt from last time we were home. Just bought enough for a spagbol, beef curry, pork chops for Sunday lunch and a couple of other things. I haven't included the cost of the beer or the bottle of wine as they would, obviously, make it very unfair. However, I have just popped into Mercadona (Consum a bit further) and priced up how much it would cost here compared to Asda in UK. Apart from potatoes (which we can get cheaper from the guy on the side of the road) , steak mince and cheddar (which was on offer in Asda), everything else was quite a bit cheaper. This is how it worked out.
Large fresh chicken (2.5kg)
Asda £6.70 (€8.04)
Spain €5.50 (£4.59)
1 kg vine tomatoes
Asda £1.99 (€2.38)
Spain €1.19 (99p)
Lean beef mince 500g
Asda £3.30 (€3.96)
Spain €4.00 (€3.35)
Long grain rice 1kg
Asda own brand £1.60 (€1.92)
Spain €1.20 (£1)
Cauliflower
Asda 95p (€1.14) quite a small one
Spain €1 (85p) very large
Onions 1kg
Asda 50p (60 cents)
Spain 40 cents (33p)
Stewing beef 500g
Asda £4.15 (€4.98)
Spain €2.75 (£2.30)
Spaghetti 500 g
Asda own brand £1.35 (€1.62)
Spain €1 (84p)
Garlic 3 cloves
Asda 75p (90 cents)
Spain 75c (63p)
Pork chops pack of 4 with rind 800g
Asda £4 (€4.80)
Spain €3.84 (£3.20)
Potatoes 3kg washed white
Asda £1.50 (€1.80)
Spain €2.50 (£2.10)
Mature Cheddar cheese 375g
Asda £2.50 on “roll back”
Spain €3.25 (£2.70)
Greek Yogurt 6 pack
Asda £3 (€3.60)
Spain €2.50 (£2.08)
Tomato Sauce own brand 500g
Asda 79p (94c)
Spain 79c (66p)
I also have a receipt from the Chinese restaurant around the corner from us. A party of six and the following; Starters 1 Chinese salad, 1 Won Tons, 1 Sweetcorn and chicken soup and 3 large spring rolls served with prawn crackers.
Mains. 2 sizzling beef and chicken in sweet and sour sauce, 2 chicken curry and mushroom in black bean sauce, 1 crispy duck in orange and onion sauce and 1 Lemon chicken. Served with 2 boiled rice, 2 noodles and 2 fried rice. Large beer or half bottle wine per person and this was 2 beers, 1 bottle white wine and 2 cokes.
Desserts, 2 creme caramel, 3 ice cream (I didn't have the dessert) followed by Chinese schnapps for 4 (not for the kids) and 4 coffees plus two more cokes.
Total bill was €36.80. Feeling generous because it was so reasonable, my SiL left €40 including tip.
And that's my final bit on this.

Floella thank you. All I asked was a question regarding the mazarron country club. Didnt mean to start 'price wars' Spain v UK. Whatever about Great Britain Spain is definately cheaper than where I live in Dublin. Throw in climate and Spain wins hands down. Ole!!

I see windtalker's maths skills are about on par with his erudition. Nothing knew there but I'm sure you new that.😁
So you were complaining that a pint on your place was |€2.40. That you are now going for a cheap pint in UK at £2. In case you missed it, €2.40 is £2. A crumbling pound does make price comparisons a bit silly.
And I don't have an Asda receipt but, yes, you can see on the internet. Fresh, large chickens are £2.68 a kilo so the price is right. And I'm pretty sure Bob wouldn't be using a cheap 20p tin of spaghetti for his "spagbol". Also quite a few different prices for ketchup.
Still, my husband has a good laugh at your posts when I ask him to decipher them. Cheaper in UK ? That reallysets him off guffawing.

."Their is also a post on this forum from a fellow that wants to take himself /wife and 3 kids over to Spain ,and not one of you people have the balls to answer him ,you are all waiting for someone like me to give him the low down so you can start with all the bullshit again." Un quote windtalker.
OH, Windtalker, we who live here permanently have the balls just lack the expertise of someone who knows everything because they live part time on an urbanisation called Camposol.......
As for Camposol being the most expensive ghetto in Spain......apart from 1 grossly overpriced property on a 1700 m.plot, on the their property website, the average price for the normal tiny 3bed / 3bath with pool on plot so small one can overhear the conversations of neighbours is far far less than that.
Having a property valued is the norm in UK especially in a constantly rising market. But in Spain !!,Windtalker you really do make me laugh because this NEVER happens here....total basura.....

Floela If you intend selling your property ,how on earth are you going to do that without getting it valued .speaking from a personal point of view I never intended to sell my sole to afford to live in Spain ,my villa is nothing more than a holiday home ,I wonder what is going to happen to all the so called expats that have sold their sole to live in Spain now that the Brexit is kicking in you will have many sleepless nights I am sure waiting for that to come around.

Well, Windtalker if you really are serious about selling your Villa since you have had it valued at 350,00€ I am interested at that price, I would even like to make you a slightly higher offer of say 700,00€...Consider it sold. Provided you leave the water in the pool as I don't want any unexpected costs.
Not bothered about it being in a ghetto either.

Glad you have a sense of humour.

A property in Spain is always advertised at the price the vendor requests. REA's here haven't the expertise to value a shed..even on urbanisations.
As for selling ones SOUL to live here....Windtalker, your really are the comedian..my sides are splitting with laughter. Please don't concern yourself about life here after Brexit...none of we expats are...
Reading your posts am amazed at how little you really know about Everything Spanish.

Baz you have got to have a sense of humor ,when a estate agent has just told you that your villa is only with half of what you paid for it 10 years back ,I suppose that is what you call life .

Baz, don't jump into the deep end just yet, 'cos there is a 4bed/ 4 bath detached 11x5 m pool ( admit it is a mere metre smaller than windtalkers ) on Camposol for bargain price of €160.000 on Rightmove.
For only a few euros more you can get 5 beds........that comes complete with furnishings.......

Floella.
Yes, but as Windtalker got his valued at only 350,00€...Note he left of a nought...So it's three hundred & fifty euro's...It's got to be worth the gamble, even sight unseen, after all he's probably got a TV in it that cost more.
Thankfully I know what he meant even if he didn't.
Windtalker, are you trying to tell us all on here that as your villa is now worth half of what you paid for it 10 years ago...Jokes aside you actually paid 700,000€ for it...Not forgetting you own and let out house's in the UK and also have a currant thriving business employing many....
They do say a 'Fool and his money are easily parted' ......But how did the fool get the money in the first place.

Floela l did have a good heating & plumbing business untill 3 weeks back ,l have signed that part of the business over to my son and am now semi retired.l still have a small portfolio of properties which are all rented out ,I started buying and developing property 25 years back ,and have always made a profit along the way .The only bad investment l have ever made was buying a villa in Spain ,l paid €184,000 for the villa 10 years back and have spent a small fortune maintaining it ,l am now seriously thinking about selling it so l had it valued by 2 local estate agents and they both came up with the figure of approximately €125,000 ,l suppose l could do what you suggest by putting my own price on it but being in the property business myself l know that won't work ,so if l did not have humorist side to me by taking the lost with a pinch of salt and getting on with life ,l would be looking for razor to cut my throat. Enjoy Spain l am off this is my last post on this site.
