Santander bank
The Comments |
We are thinking of switching to Santander bank in Spain as we use them in the UK, can anybody offer their advice. We are non residents and don't have any money going in on a regular basis, we just transfer money in when needed to cover bills etc for our holiday home. We are with BMN at the moment who seem to charge for everything.

I am also with Santander in the UK.... What you will find that Santander Spain has no association with it's UK sister bank ...they will still rip you off like any bank in Spain or the UK ...but in saying that we are pleased with the service we get in the UK and Spain... I have been with Santander Spain for 10 years and had no problems at all ...they even renew your none residents card every two years automatically ..and arrange all your direct debits for you.

Thanks for the reply. If we wanted to switch banks, do you know ir they would they organise this for you like they do in the UK.

If you want to switch banks ..you would need to take all the relevant documents to Santander Spain and ask them to open a new account and set up your standing orders ....once this is done go back to your original bank ...and withdraw all your money then close your account.

You can go to the bank you are with now and they will print out all your standing orders, direct debits etc with the references. Take that to your new bank and they will set them up for you.
As a non-resident you will be lucky to find any bank that does not charge you for virtually everything especially if you only keep enough in to cover bills etc. They don't, after all, work for nothing.
