Leigh - do it in the UK cheaper and probaly quicker with less language problems - roads here are more difficult to negotiate too when they take you into towns - road signs less clear as well.

Roberto I too am with Linea Directa - premiums seemed generally good but have noticed a distinct gain on the competition in the last two years having sucked me in - definitely shop around next renewal - lots of others doing it in English as well. I have heard from three people that LD are great with everything until you need to make a claim unless you have experienced different - of course the three that told me were all just after I had renewed two motors.

Guess all insurance companies are the same, Spain, UK, wherever. They give you an umbrella while the sun is shining, then want it back when it starts to rain. (Actually, Mark Twain said that about bankers, but it seems to fit nicely here!)
We had a bad experience with Mapfre some years ago (eventually resolved thank God) and they're supposed to be one of (the?) biggest in Spain, so who knows?

I posted this on 19th  .. "Leigh, don't know if this is relevant BUT you have, I think, to be 21 with 2 yrs licence under your belt IF you want to rent in Spain. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong."

Leigh has asked me ...  " jeansis what are you talking about are you talking about renting a car "

Yes, Leigh. I said IF IT WAS RELEVANT TO YOU, wherever you have taken your test IF you decide to rent a hire car in Spain ..... just a point of observation.

I recently read about a young woman of only 18 who had just passed her UK test who was enquiring on another forum about hiring a car (a people carrier at THAT !!) so she could drive her family around in Spain on their hols. She was told she'd need to have held her UK licence for two years AND be 21+. So, IF you WERE considering driving in Spain, as soon after your test  .. wherever you take it, you won't be able to HIRE a car. Driving your own would be different. You'd need to enquire about what I've just said, of course, but I believe that is so.

Hi, I have a similar sort of question my partner and I are moving over in July, whilst I am still being employed via a UK company, she will be on a self employed contract. I'm trying to find out more about the tax system, I have seen that the fixed rate non-resident tax is 24% and social is 6.35%, is this correct? Also what deductions come off this, re; rent, travel work associated costs? We also have a small child of 2 who will be going to nursery, obviously the costs are high for this and we were getting child care allowance in the UK but I cant seem to find a similar? Does your tax get reduced for outgoings for dependants aswell and if so how much.......Anybody

 Thanks
