Fibby, Isn't Playa Flemenca in Orihuela?  If so then without a residencia I don't think you can.

I renewed mine at the end of last year, it took Mrs Gillespie just a couple of minutes. Mind you she does look better than georgia in mini skirt!

Formentura Costa says that the law changed in January so I would imagine that every area would be abiding by these new rules.  So far I've only read of people who have just moved out to Orihuela Costa are having difficulty in enroling their children into school because they can't enrol on the padron without a residencia.

It remains to be seen what happens in other areas.

Wait a couple of months Fibby and try then, maybe they will let you.  At the moment it's a waste of time.

Hi have just heard from someone that lives in  our village, who has said yes the law has changed in January if you are a non resident you cannot sign on the Padron.    But being as we signed on last year we wil be able to renew it at the cost of       1.80euros,  Hope this helps.   Pat

Just to clear up any confusion with the padron here guys.....

You do not need a padron to gain residencia but you do need residencia to gain the padron certificate.

so get your residencia first and the get yourself on the padron.

Also you only need to renew your certifiacte if you are registering a child in a new school, registering for the health service, registering a new car etc..etc...

If you are currently on the padron you do not need to re register.

I hope this clears up a few facts and myths....

That's not what you told me when I emailed you about reregistering, so what's going on, G ?

As I said previously the previous owner of our house emigrated to Australia over 4 years ago.

I get electoral communications and loads of junk mail.  I pay the suma and what do I get, nada, not even a christmas card from the mayor cause even that's in her name

The way it is now no one can buy a car until they obtain a residencia unless they are already registered on the padron.  I'm not sure the car dealers will be too impressed with that.  They could loose a lot of business.

Hi More,

Unfortunately this is what we have to deal with every day,to protect our clients and stay ahead of the game we have to have constant conversations with the town halls.

The problem is with the constant rule changes and elections imminent the changes almost happen hourly, with a little conjecture, hearsay and urban myth thrown in for good measure, everybody becomes confused, including the Town Hall staff.

My previous post is now the official line for this area....

Has anybody got any idea what the state of play is re: the Padron is in the Estepona area?I had always understood that registering was encouraged by the Ayuntamiento to increase the provision of central funds, and that it was in no way connected to "Residencia" which opens up a whole new kettle of fish.

That's precisely my understanding of it too, and some councils offer an incentive to sign on, such as reduced rates and water/sanitation charges, as well as discounts to certain council run facilities.

I think the confusion has arisen as a result of the changes to the Residencia. Since the good old Residency card has been replaced with a useless piece of paper, it's hard to figure out what the difference is between the two sometimes, hence they seem to get muddled up over which is needed for what. When will Brussels learn that Spain has difficulty dealing with it's own bureaucracy, without giving it more to deal with?

I suggest you go to the town hall in Estepona and ask for the up to the minute situation, but don't expect a clear answer.
