Hi All,

I have just completed and I was wondering how many sets of keys I should have for my duplex.

I would be grateful for any information.

Many thanks.

I cannot help you with how many sets you should have but, if it is a new property and many trades people have had access to the keys, it seems the recommended procedure (on this site) is to change all the locks.

If it is on a development some people have recommended that a few of you get together and exchange locks and keys say, in groups of five.

Absolutely!  Change your locks!  So many people will have had access - and even security keys can be copied, no matter what they say!  Get the locks changed so soon as you are able.

There should be  5 sets of keys per lock for doors and 3 sets for grilles and windows.  Security keys can mean different things.  If you buy certain locks in UK, you can only get copies from the company by providing the serial number of the original contract, but if they can copy them, who's to say no-one else can?  My "security" key to the place in Spain proved no problems at all for Mister Minit in Torrevieja when I wanted one cut for my son-in-law.  Change your locks before you move your valuables in.  The 200 euros you pay pales into significance against the cost of the security grilles and alarm systems you fit.
