A work colleague wishes to use our apartment and, as she is only 20 with 2 year's driving experience, I'm wondering if there are any car hire ompanies in Spain that will rent her a vehicle? Any help much appreciated.

Minimum age for hire car drivers is 21, sometimes even 23 or 25 depending on the size of the engine.

Ta lot and lots, it really is appreciated.

Sophie, Record do not rent hire cars out to under 21's from Alicante, see their terms & conditions HERE.
Click on the bit GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR RECORD GO OFFICES (link won't work here)
The driver must be in possession of a valid driving license that allows him also to drive in the E.U. The driver must have held his driving license for at least one year. All drivers have to be at least 21 years of age.

Hi again,
I know of a person who did rent a car off them under the age of 21, this was maybe a year ago, anyway doesnt look like they do that anymore.
Hope you find a solution.

I have heard of others renting when under 21 likely because the office of the car hire wasn't diligent in checking & the hirer, when booking, didn't check terms prior to placing the booking but surely the insurance would be invalid if they had an accident or were stopped by police ?
(I was "watching" a thread in another big forum where a woman, who didn't drive herself, allowed her son under 21 to hire a car in Spain to ferry the family around, knowing full well she was in the wrong).
Some people are crazy ! It's like knocking your head against a brick wall at times, don't you think ?

Indeed it is, im under 25 and I have many restrictions to my insurance, but im fully aware that if i break any of these, the car will be taken off me, and I will be sent to court for driving without insurance, and that would mean i wouldnt be able to work or pay my mortgage, its just not worth it.
Some people just dont listen and think they are above the law.

Hi Sue, have you checked out their prices though for www.resorthoppa.com ?
I put in Murcia airport to Vera Playa 5/5 returning 19/5 & it said a private transfer (cheapest) was £365.50 (for up to 4 persons !! )
for one person it's just unacceptable.
I thought £148.44 return with http://www.shuttledirect.com/en/php/airport_shuttle_direct.php was bad enough (1 person plus a suitcase).

Hi More
I used Almeria - Vera Playa as my search parameters and a shared shuttle came out at Euro 29.90 return per person. I know my guests will be more than happy with this and I suppose it depends on airport/times, etc, as to what they can provide. Some searches do not bring back the shared shuttle option and quote for private or executive transfers which is why your price search seemed high.
I know the residents of the urbanisation I have purchased on at Vera Playa will be very happy to know there is a cheap and quick option from Almeria airport into the resort for non drivers.

Hi Sue, crossed wires here. I used Murcia San Javier as you said your friend renting your apartment would fly into San Javier. I wondered why she wouldn't fly into Almeria with it being nearer.

No, apology is mine.
We have saved so much money on finding this cheap shared shuttle from Almeria airport that she can afford to pay the extra £20 pp for flights to Almeria instead of Murcia and still have some spending money left over.
I am thrilled too as it's saved me the worry and headache of trying to trawl the train/coach websites and translating them into English for her and it means our apartment is so much more rentable as I can now offer guests a cheap option to renting a car ... (something which has put people off before) .. and the transfer only takes an hour and a half from door to door.
So, happy bunnies all round !!

I am curious now as I have just had a look and as More says, it is £365 from Murcia to Vera- Playa and £225 from Almeria to Vera- Playa. I suppose these fares go up in high season the same as they do with airlines, but that is still al ot of money to find.
How did your guests get on with it Suzi? I'm sure I saw something in the Thalassa forum, but can't find for looking.
