Hi
Well my suggestion doesnt seem so bad after all.
Guys like this just laugh at the law. The Police know it and probably on first name terms.
Why bother as this takes time and may as well go for a few easy picking motorists to keep the figures up.

Hi Laury, I wonder what we are paying our taxes for in that case if you do not get help when you need it. I really feel for you, but try going to your local newspaper's first see what they have to say. The more publicity the better. Can you give a good description of this b............ ? Good Luck Laury

Sorry to drag this back up.
I did a lot of web hunting and made a lot of phone calls.
The police say there's no crime. Trading standards have no interest. CAB haven't a clue.
I rang all the local storage companies and found the bulk of our goods. They had been stored in what were believed by the storage company to be empty crates. Six boxes and a lot of pictures are still unfound.
I recovered the items that he had collected in his van the week before "delivery". They were still in his van and after weeks of him saying they were and he would bring them back, I started ringing his doorbell at 5am every morning with my dog in tow and told him I would keep calling until I got the van load back.
He finally brought it back.
The money, alas, will probably never be seen again.
There were 4 of us done at the same time and after talking to one of the victims, I found that he had managed to get £500 back by using a heavy mob and threats.
My husband still wants to break his legs, but what can you do?
I have contacted the local newspaper but they never ring back when they say.
The new Thomson's local directory arrived on Friday and he has a new half page advert in his new name of Home2Home.
People need warning so I will keep plugging away at the papers.
(Hope I haven't bored you all)

Hi LauryC
I didn't see you original posts at the time, what a nightmare for you, so sorry!
Yes, keep this post up the top, it's a warning to others.
And no, it's not boring, this is what EOS is all about, members sharing experiences.
Good luck with it...............
Kind regards,

Hi Laury
Have you contacted Watchdog? www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/
They have been known to take up the odd crusade against crooks like this. Worth a try.
What about local Devon radio?
Best wishes

Hi Irene & Alan.
I sent an e-mail to Watchdog weeks ago and they never even replied.
Their site says that they get thousands of mails and they read them all but only pursue certain ones.
Obviously not ours.

Hi
This is a possibility - take out a quarter page advert in the local paper denouncing the new removal company, saying all of the things on this thread. If you are lucky, he will sue you and you can then go to court with proof of his crime. Risky I know, but it doesn't see like those %&$$$%s in the police are going to do anything.
Did you talk to your MP or is he a socialist?

Ooh... very risky.
I don't know where libel starts and ends so I was trying to get the paper to do an article because they know how much they can print safely.

I'm no lawyer, but I would have thought that if you had documentary evidence that they had screwed you (receipts etc.) then you would be on firmish ground.
I've been out of UK for many years and I know things have gone badly awry over the last decade or so and that victims seem to have less rights than the scumbags, so in the end - I don't know what you can do. Sorry.
Terrible situation.

Hi
Sorry about your problem - and I iamagine that it adds insult to injury to see that he is carrying on regardless.
I am sure I have heard that newspapers/mags/brochures etc. have some responsibilty if they advertise a firm that they have been warned is fraudulent.
How about trying to cut off his advertising???? I know it won't help you to get recompense...but revenge can be a good substitute......

Hi Laury, what did the police actually say, I cannot believe they are not doing anything. It is quite frightning nowdays the law seems to be on the side of the criminal. When you look at the resale of the timeshare thread and et00 taking people's money and not doing anything,so many people complained but they still advertise on sky and channel 4. Take care Laury, Pat

Thanks for the comments folks.
The police are useless. They said it wasn't a crime. Just a breach of contract. The bloke says that all our stuff is in the storage depot, therefore it isn't classed as stolen. The money is just seen as an unfulfilled obligation.
I think it's pathetic.
He collected goods and money from us a week before he was due to deliver. He KNEW he wasn't going to do it.
To me that is fraud. Taking money under false pretences.
One of the couples that was supposed to be on the same delivery was an old couple and the wife had recently had heart surgery.they had to move into an hotel until they could find someone else to deliver.
It's a nightmare and I think it may be a good idea to contact Thompson directory and tell them.
The local newspaper hasn't rung back and they have promised twice.
I really don't want it to happen to anyone else. We went through hell because of him.

Write to all the publications by snail mail, recorded delivery and keep the copies and receipts.
From a personal point of view, and I guess that you are mature citizens, I would like to think that I would be able to put this behind me, and forget it - otherwise it will eat you alive like a cancer and the only ones you will be hurting will be yourselves.
I know that this will annoy a lot of readers, but life is short, and scum like him don't deserve your grief.

First of all Laury I am truly saddened by your tale of woe. It has to be said that while there have been a great many horror stories about things happening in Spain against the presonal interest of property buyers the large majority of the bad or sharp practices have been perpetrated by Brits (not Spanish). While they have not been discouraged by the Spanish relaxed (or is it lazy) attitude to implementing laws and litigation (so many here take things into their own hands and believe in resttition or retribution - culprits choice). It has to be said that it is also possible to get the local police involved on an informal basis.
Not being funny Laury but is worth contacting a tabloid paper like the Sun. They have big balls and deep pockets and they are certainly keen to have reader stories - there is something on their website and I think in the paper itself about telling them your story - its unlikely it will make the front page but it might get a local rag to take up the mantle if its published in a national. If you dont focus it only on you but you incorporate the other victims as well it might make the story big enough for them.
SCUM like that deserve to be hung out to dry for their cruel and callous behaviour and i dont care if it is bad language but they are SHITS (civility deters me from writing the word that I want to write). Hopefully you have recovered most if not all of your possessions that you hold dear. This message was last edited by Smiley on 9/10/2008.

Hi Smiley.
To be honest, I can't see a national newspaper taking it up if the local one doesn't.
We have everything back apart from 6 boxes of goods... contents of which i'm not sure until I unpack.
The money is gone too.
We have another chap due to deliver what we recovered out to Spain next week and i'm flying out again to await delivery. Fingers crossed.
