ANY REGRETS??

HI
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY REGRETS ABOUT MOVING TO SPAIN?
ME & HUBBY ARE LOOKING TO MOVE OUT IN THE NEXT 18MTHS WITH OUR 2 CHILDREN AGED 3YRS AND 9MTHS.
WE ARNT SURE WHERE YET.
PEOPLE KEEP TELLING US THAT WE WILL BE MAKING A BIG MISTAKE AND WILL END UP COMING BACK TO UK
PLEASE CAN PEOPLE TELL ME HOW THEY ARE FINDING LIFE IN SPAIN

Without knowing what you are doing or your financial situation it's difficult to say. 1.Assuming one of you will be staying at home and looking after the young children and have either a mortgage or rent to pay, with no relatives to bail you out if it goes wrong, I would say there's a 98% chance you are making a huge mistake. 2. If you have 2 years savings to live on and a property with no mortgage then 50/50. Trouble is, over the last 8 years my experience tells me whenever people ask this question, they have already sold it to themselves and have made up their mind. If the first scenario applies to you, it is worse than going the casino with your families financial future.

  Hi Grumps, just a quick question can either of you speak Spanish or are you trying to learn that would help.     Question number two are houses easy to sell where you are a lot of people are having trouble selling in UK.        Job situation is not good in Spain, my son in law runs two computer shops including repairs in UK he did look into going to Spain but decided against it.   But Irene is right twinsmummy will tell you more about the job situation.   Pat

we are thinking of renting our house so we have something to fall back on if things dont work out.

You are far, far better prepared then we were four years ago. We had nobody to bail us out and we had to pretty much sink or swim.We chose to swim because we had no choice but to make it and we did but it was tough and I wouldn't ever want to go through it again. Be careful with your budget though because life in Spain never turns out to be as cheap as you think.It is the perfect age for your children if you want them to go through the spanish system.

You don't want to go through life thinking what if, so do your research and if you have the money to last 2 years then give it ago.

Good idea to rent out house but don't forget to factor in worse case scenario, could be empty for a couple of months between rentals can you afford to pay mortgage.

I wouldn't buy in Spain until you know where you want to stay, you may have to move around to find a job, I know your husband wants to work from home but he needs a client base.  You need to find an area where there's a gap in the market.

You're in an ideal situation as the housing market is not rising, if you decide that Spain is not for you for full time living then you can return to the UK without too many problems.

Your children are at the right age as by the time you need to enroll them in school you should have an idea of where you want to live.

Timing for you is perfect so as long as you can afford the "long holiday" then give it a go what have you got to loose.
