“The level of construction is greatest in towns such as Benidorm, Elche, Pilar de la Horadada, Santa Pola, San Vicente, Orihuela, Villajoyosa and Alicante.”
Architects also revealed that new properties being built in the province are smaller.
“The promoters are reducing the size of houses and putting more properties in the same space,” the report states.
Another trend flagged up by the report is that constructors rushed to finish properties before October last year to avoid having to comply with new legislation. Under the law, new properties now have to be fitted with special energy-saving and fire-safety devices.
According to the report, promoters registered 7,779 homes in September last year –double the monthly average – and the figure fell to 3,078 in October.
The municipalities where most houses were built in 2006 are: Alicante (4,166), Elche (3,399), Torrevieja (2,967), Orihuela (2,624) and Denia (2,240)."
