private schools in costa blanca are now too expensive
The Comments |
Does anyone think that someof the private international schools in costa blanca are over priced now and need to remember that the euro is bad against the pound at the moment.
The school I am talking about is now more expensive than a uk private school and it does not have the same standard of facilites

Yes. Are they going to reduce their fees - No !!!
I have twin boys in Year 3 at British School Alicante. In one of the boys class he is the only english child (rest are spanish) and in the other there are a couple of english. Hence as the spanish are not affected by the exchange rate I think there is no chance of the fees coming down plus I can't see any school doing this especially when they are over subscribed. Your children's school may be different so good luck. I have to admit the fees are killing us at the moment and I have to commute to the UK every week - there are a lot of people doing it . The Easyjet flight on Friday to Alicante has alot of familiar faces - but this the subject of another post !! which I will get round to one day !
Incidentally I am more than happy with the school - they used to give a discount for 2 or more kids that has now gone as well !

I totally agree my kids have been at the school for more than 10 years and when we first came the fees were 5000 pounds for the 2 kids now i am paying 18000 euros or pound its the same now they have changed the uniform 3 times since i have been there nd guess what they are changing it again sept 2009
my friend was a teacher there and he had to pay half the fees thoughout his kids time at the school but since its been sold all the teachers kids get it free some have 5 kids thats where our money goes.
Sorry i am moaning but i have to travell back for work very other week to pay for the fees

I may have the wrong end of the stick here, but why should the prices drop just because the Euro is strong against the pound? After all, you are paying for a service in a foreign country with a foreign currency, isn't that the risk you take? I find my community fees and keyholder fees expensive now, but would I expect the community to take the hit or my keyholder to lower their standards? Playing devil's advocate here, did you want them to raise their fees when the exchange rate was the other way around?

Sorry, I have to agree with Mark. My son will start International School in Javea in April, and having done a lot of research the fees are certainly not as expensive as some schools I have looked at. As it is my choice to send him to this particular school then I have to accept the fees. I dont see why the weak pound would make any difference to those providing a service in a Euro country.

You do have the wrong end of the stick
We have been having this conversation long before the euro problems
some school are ok with the fees but some have gone up 150% since 2001 and nothing has change just the owners
