A  painful 'tail' of caution!!!!

woke up this morning to 7" of new snow. Fantastic, couldn't get in to work, kids of school, so we all went sledgeing.  All having a great time.......and then.....my 14 year old daughter said 'Dad, you go on the front of the sledge, and i'll go on the back'  seemed ok, so i agreed.  We set of down this steep slope, got up to quite a good speed and then must have hit something large and hard  under the snow because the sledge stopped, but we kept going. The sledge is a traditional wooden type, and has a piece of wood about 1" sqare sticking up about 3" above seat height to rest feet on each side at front..

I slid along the sledge, legs akimbo and hit the piece of wood on the left, going so fast it stuck up my bum, nearly ripped me in half (if not for waterproof overtrousers) and has severely bruised my coxics, so i can barely sit down, get up, or bend much.........and i'm not certainly looking forward to toilet duties!   My daughter was fine by the way.

Dear oh dear, sort of sitting one sided in agony writing this. if anyone says go on the front of a traditional wooden sledge  DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Goostich44 you have our deepest sympathy and we promise to stop laughing at your tale of woe. Look on the bright side, it could have been alot worse.

P.S Would the sledge be for sale by any chance?

Sandra

yes, so sad.

Jet48

yes, when my wife stopped almost crying through laughter, she was quite?  sympathetic. I was jumping around holding holding the sore area like someone had attacked my nether regions with a red hot poker. I did see the funny side of it, but oh the pain! .  A glass of wine and the strongest pain killers i can find has numbed things a bit, but think i'll stick with building smowmen in the next few days, if i don't have to bend down to much!

Dear All,

absolutely scandalous, the manufacturer should be sued.

What is the point of all that careful sanding down of splinters if larger lumps are left protruding like that?

Never mind the restrictions it is time to name and shame.

"Tell it like it is"

Regards and sympathy

Norman

Hi Sandra

I saw that too, it was so sad. It's just awful to think that the girls went off for a day of fun and how easily it turned to such a sad tragedy.

My heart goes out to that family.

morning all

snowing like mad again here in Northampton. Never seen so many snowmen!

It does bring out community spirit. People are much friendlier when they step out of the hampster wheel for a day or two!  Managed to drive in to work, not sure about getting home though?

Could be the first time most 4x4 owners have had a good purpose for their vehicle!

Oh dear Goodstich!  You have my deepest sympathy. When I was younger I fell off a horse whilst riding across a Golf course pathway. Although it was sandy I fell onto a large flint onto my coccyx. ( tail of the spine) Then in my adulthood I fell down the stairs and broke it. Careless I know!!  The pain was indescribable. The end result of these falls is recurrent pain from the sacroiliac . Get some physio on it and ask your Doctor for some strong painkillers.

Having sustained the same injury I'm not laughing...it brings tears to my eyes thinking about it.!!.................(  )

Somerset was very badly hit overnight, OH is currently removing many inches of snow from the drive. We've never experienced this in this area. Stay safe & warm everyone.

Edited to say something I meant to but memory failed.  Goodstich, I hope you feel a whole lot better today. Your sledging days are numbered. You take more care in future.

More snow, rain and strong winds for Spain (03.02.09)

14 regions of the country are on weather alert this morning.

The snow, rain and wind continue in many areas of Spain today, with 14 regions on weather alert, although there will be a general improvement in the conditions suffered over the weekend. A statement from Protección Civil has advised people to stay at home if they can and take extra care.

Snow is expected in the regions of Extremadura, Andalucía, País Vasco, Asturias, Cataluña, Castilla y León, Cantabria, La Rioja, Navarra and Castilla-La Mancha as well as in the sierras of Madrid where ten cms of fresh snow is forecast.

Last weekend there were 900 snow ploughs working on 160,000 kms of road network across the country, 111 of them in the Madrid region.

More than 10,000 tons of salt was laid on the roads, a fifth of it in Madrid.

Alerts are in place for high winds along the Andalucian coast and in Ceuta as well as in Canarias, Galicia and Asturias. Heavy rain is forecast for Andalucia, Ceuta and Galicia.

Cloud will increase across the country from the west again today as a new front moves across the country.

Westerly moderate winds along the Andalucian coast, with strong gusts in the Strait.

Hi More, the Bambi video was lovely! No-one does it like Disney, and yes childhood memories come flooding back. The last couple of years I've been in the US for Thanksgiving and the run up to Christmas, you hear this song everywhere you go and it really gets you in the mood for Chistmas. Happy days!

Regards, Poppyseed
