Pat & Roy - Have you managed to get your bead curtain?  I noticed Lidl were selling them at end of June.  I managed to get the door blinds and window sets they were selling whilst we were over but didn't get around to put ting them up.  Did put up mosi screen on my front grill by securing it with plastic ties I found in a todo shop.  It was a bit of a struggle expecially with all that heat but I suceeded and the flies stayed out.

Hi Semijubilada,  You have a good memory that seems ages ago to me.  The answer is no we are going back to Spain in October for a couple of months so we will try and sort it out then.  I have seen some advertisied in England but I am not sure of measurements.   I might ask our keyholder to measure up for me and go from their.  Thank You very much though.  We did go into a Lidis when we was last their but they did not have any then.  Regards Pat

Hi Pat & Roy,

Busy packing up to fly home now, but saw bead curtains in the  big Ferrataria which is on the Le Capitan's beach roundabout. Think this is Capo Roig roundabout???

Take first right off roundabout, then 1st right again to get to it (Directions off N332 heading away from Torreveija. You can see it from the N332, beach to your left, they sell everything!

Kind regards,

To get anything which is advertised as a special offer in Lidl's you have to get there just as the store is opening on a Monday or Thursday.

With the Mossi door blinds I was lucky as I dropped my husband off at Campomoar golf club and from there went on the motorway to San Pedro.  That's definately a more civilised Lidl'd compared with the one in Punta Prima and the one by Carrefour in Torrevieja.

Unfortunately the items I need normally come out after I leave Spain but I have noticed that here in the UK the same items are sold a week or 2 weeks later.

I bought a Ucom dect phone from there years ago and have been trying to get a second receiver to use in the bedroom without success.  I didn't realise then that Lidl's was an Irish company, I'd always thought it was German owned, hopefully they will repeat the offer of the 2 handset phone and I can get one here.

Hi semijubilada

I'm afraid you are wrong about Lidl

Lidl is a European discount supermarket chain of German origin that operates 5,000 stores. In Germany it is Aldi's main competitor. The full name of the company is Lidl Stiftung & Co. KG. It belongs to the holding company Schwarz, which also owns the store chains Handelshof and Kaufland.

Lidl has established itself in over 17 countries. It was founded in the 1930s by a member of the Schwarz family, then called Schwarz Lebensmittel-Sortimentsgrosshandlung. In the 1970s the first Lidl stores of today's incarnation opened.

Lidl is not an abbreviation, but the last name of Ludwig Lidl, a retired teacher. In 1930, Josef Schwarz became a partner in Südfrüchte Grosshandel Lidl & Co., a fruit wholesaler, and he developed the company into a general food wholesaler. In 1977, under his son Dieter Schwarz, Lidl&Schwarz began to focus on discount markets, larger supermarkets, and cash and carry wholesale markets. The first Lidl discount store was opened in 1973, copying the Aldi concept. In 1977, the Lidl chain comprised 30 discount stores. Dieter Schwarz's problem was that he could not just start using the Lidl name. As Schwarz Markt (Black Market) did not seem as a good idea, he bought the right to use the Lidl name from Ludwig for 1000 marks.

John

Thank-you for confirming that I wasn't wrong in thinking that Lidl is a German company.  On another site I was informed that it was Irish owned but now I can see that the information was incorrect.

It's called copying & pasting, Pat  Taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lidl

You just type "lidl" into Google.

To return to the subject of keeping bugs at bay, I live in the campo on Costa del Sol and insects, spiders, ants etc are all a problem at this time of year.  I also can recommend Zum for spraying aroung the edge of rooms, window opening etc although I have to say that it doesn't stop all crawling insects from crossing the barrier.  I sprayed it across the entrance to my garage and then watched two spiders and several ants make their way across it!!!  However, inside the house, it has certainly made a difference.  Where we used to have crawly things coming under the front door threshhold, we now have a regular pile of dead things.

I also wanted to recommend an electrical plug-in appliance called pest stop.  It plugs into the wall permanently and sends an electrical vibration throughout the house's wiring system which insects and rodents find very irritating.  The idea is that within three weeks, nothing will be living/nesting within the walls of your house.  The appliance also sends out a sonic signal which is supposed to deter mozzies.

Finally we had fly screens made to measure and fitted to all windows and patio doors (10 in total) for only €500.

Result - we now have a house almost devoid of creeply crawlies and flies and we can still keep windows and doors open for the breezes. Perfect!!  Just wanted to share that with you all.

Thank you Teralin,

That is very good info. I hadn't thought of that as every time we've been over it's not been in the summer, we are newbies at the mo. So come August will know what to do.

I thought all that was very interesting teralin. Many thanks. Each time we go over we see dead woodlice & cobwebs !  Perhaps we should buy that product you mentioned, Zum ! Do you buy it from supermarkets rather than more specialised places ?

That PestStop is ideal, I sourced a supplier. http://www.martleyelectronics.co.uk/index.html You'd need a few of the basic 500 ones though as one only covers a single bedroom, offer for three is

Pest Stop 500 x 3   £39.95 inc vat & free delivery in UK.(mainland)

The 500's have a three pin UK plug on but the 2000 can be bought with a 2 pin europlug on. The PestClear (Pest-Stop) 2000 Pest Deterrent sounds ideal as it says it's suitable for a 2 up, 2 down house. Same price for one as buying 3 of 500's so better.

You could also choose this one which covers up to 3000 sq ft. or 3/4 bedroom house. It has various settings & you can put it in your bedroom & switch it to the mozzie setting at night, wow !

Pest Clear (Pest-Stop) Professional   £59.95 inc vat & free P&P UK mainland

I've just thought. In all my posts I'm not sure if I've asked a question ! Must've though. Contrary to popular belief I don't know it all ! !

As Gina said

You can buy Zum from supermarkets - Supersol, Hipercor, Carrefour etc.  It translates as "ZUM - ONE YEAR WITHOUT INSECTS"

Sorry for posting on your "Goodnight thread" - hope I didn't keep you up

What about THIS one ? £25.00 plus P&P £4.38 = £29.38 ? Scroll down to Pest-Stop Ultrasonic/Electro-Magnetic Unit... getting confusing now, innit ? Think I'll just put up with the little blighters, ha ha !!

One unit plugged into a mains socket, protects an average sized 3 bedroom house. from a wide variety of pests including rats, mice, ants, cockroaches earwigs and many other crawling insects. Also has Mosquito control setting, useful for using on holiday.

Dee & Karen, I'm trying to be serious here, aren't some mothers-in-laws, & some humans, PESTS anyway ? (Certainly my own ma-in-law was a BIG PEST but it was almost impossible to deter HER. Moved to the other end of the country & left no forwarding address 26 years ago, THAT "controlled" her.)

Got a 30 day guarantee anyway, worth trying !
