Hello to all,
Last night on TV was the second part of a film/documentary based on the failed attempt of the terrorist group ETA to kill King Juan Carlos. The story made your blood freeze, as they where able to shoot him in several occasions.
During summer of 1995 an ETA commando prepared the most 'ambitious' attack ever: to kill the King. They wanted to 'decapitate' Spain, by also murdering Aznar, which they tried to by blowing up his car in Madrid. Luckily, he survived.
The attempt to kill the king was so macabre as simple. ETA hired and apartment in Palma de Mallorca, right opposite where the Royal Yacht 'Fortuna' moored, only a few hundred metres away. They trained a shooter, bought a boat in the South of France and sailed to Alcudia with their dreaded arsenal.
Although the police where controlling their movements in Southern France and in Mallorca, until 48 hours before the planned time to kill the King, police did not have sufficient evidence/information to pin them down. Fortunately, a couple of mistakes made by the commando gave them enough reasons to catch them -the night before.
The very scary part was to see how, in no less than in three occasions, the shooter had the King pointed at and could have shot him.
What would have happened if this terrific attack had been successful? God only knows.
Thank God the King is alive and kicking, and let’s hope for a long time to come.
