Hi shirley 250 euros sounds very reasonable and it makes no difference if you rent your propery or not it came about because rental property owners were not declaring income or paying taxes so everone has been made to pay. We have had to pay it for last seven years, however as we are now residents ours has changed.

As our property is a jointly owned we have to submit two tax returns, our costs are only 100 euros total.

Thanks for the replies i have sent my lawyer and e-mail to ask if this is joint as it only stated my husbands name, did you complete the forms yourselves as 100 euros seems great ?

Hi Shirley, the cost very much depends on whereabouts you are as it's based on your escritura value or the Valor Catastral value, whichever you have that is less. For example if you own an apartment on the CB it will have a value of much less than if bought on the CDS &, if you have a villa, that'll cost you more in any area than an apartment. The tax is split equally between all named owners. It's the same total cost. Hope this helps you understand.
