Hi guys!!
I seem to have this heated discussion with the man in my life quite often so Im after a consensus!!!
If someone says to you see you next friday, and its thursday, do you automatically take that to be the very next friday coming ie tomorrow in this scenario, or (as I do) the NEXT friday of next week?????
(views on my side will be offered a drink when I next see you, all others will be duly noted!!!)
Hope you are all having a great day, whatever your response!!

Hi Rixxy
Well, I'm on your side (if only for the drink)
Seriously I think like you on this one. I always feel the need to clarify which Friday if told this.
Apart from that men will always disagree with our female logic, it's just what men do !!

Hi Morerosado,
We do not always disagree with female logic, only when it's wrong!
Hi Rixxy, In this case I agree with you. It's an ambiguous statement and I always check which day they mean.

Correction, Jack ! Only when you males think we're wrong, there's a vast difference.
Isn't that true, girlfriends ?

LOGIC
Reasoned thought or argument, as distinguished from irrationality.
The interdependence of a series of events or facts.
Moresado, woman say they work on intuition, that's not logic.
Although I will say my wife is right more often than me, when using her form of logic.

Is "next Friday" the same as "A week on Friday"?
if it is, I'm with you and mines a pint.

With you also Rixxy, I don't think most people would say tomorrow if the meant the next day.

'Next friday', if Friday was the next day or even the following day, would normally mean Friday of next week, surely.
Otherwise you would just say 'tomorrow'. or 'the day after tomorrow'.

In my (Female) opinion, next Friday means next week on Friday, otherwise you would say tomorrow or 'this' Friday Surely?

I'm a 'see you Friday' for this week and 'see you next Friday' for next week no matter what day of the week I'm having the conversation. Next Friday to me indicates there is another Friday to happen first, which is 'this Friday'.
I'm going to have a survey amongst my friends, be interesting to see whether it is a male/female divide in how next Friday is interpreted.

I have a feeling everyone is working with the wrong terminology. It depends whether you see the week starting on Sunday or Monday.
See you next Friday is only useable on the Friday before the end of the week. Before that it would be, "see you a week on Friday" or "See you a week from tomorrow".
If it was Sunday or Monday (whichever you see as the officaial start of the week), you could say "See you on Friday" or "see you this Friday"!
It isn't at all to do with which is next, it is all to do with whatever day is seen as the beginning of the week.

Logically, next Friday is the first occurrence of the next day called Friday. Simples...

To me next Friday is always the second Friday. The first Friday I would call "this Friday".
It does cause confusion in our household so I always check to make sure we're talking about the same day.

Crikey.......I've read the word Friday so many times it's lost all meaning to me now. What exactly are you frying......this week or next!
