Outlook Express HELP!!
The Comments |
I hope someone can please help me? I use Outlook Express for my business emails and for some reason have suddenly started recieving emails as follows:
http://wauj.agethough.com - Levitra Professional $4.97
Nothing more is said and there is always a different name from the sender but over the last few days I am getting 20 or more in a day! I don't know how to stop them as I don't want to follow the link or reply to the sender. Others recieved are about viagra etc.
Does anyone know how they have got my email address and how I can safely stop them??
Thanks for any help you can give

Try the free version of Mailwasher here. Fill in your email accont details and open the programme to work. It will look at your email account and show you all the emails waiting to be downloaded. You can choose whether to delete them directly from the server or whether to download them.
Have you put your email address out in the big wide world? Forums, news boards, etc? They find your address just about anywhere you put it. Of course, it could be that someone has spoofed your address to send out SPAM. What they do is bulk email from another address, but place your email address in the return path so all the failed, bounced, emails come to your inbox. It happens to me every now and again, worst time was over 2000 returned emails that I didn't send!!

Of course Vicci has, it's in her signature, Mark. info@emeraldpropertymanagementsl.com
(I assume this is your business email address, Vicci, that is the cause of concern ? )
Why post your email address in your signature anyway ? It's in your website if people want to contact you.

Thanks Marskfish
I will give that a go! I have removed my email address from here but I don't think it's anything to do with this site. I have had my email address listed the whole time I have been on here and never had a problem before? It's only the last couple of days this has started. I guess it's not really a big deal for me to just delete them,it's just a little annoying!
Thanks for your help

Hi Emerald
Couple of things
Are these emails directed at info@emerald etc
Ive had a look at you source code behind your contacts page and notice you have a mailto tag. Its quite possible a spambot has picked up the email from there.
I dont know if you created the site, but would recomend using javascript of vbscript to create the mailto tag, as it keeps the email address in variable tags like the following
Other options for you to try is to set up a dummy account, which you use on your website or for use on forums or anywhere where you have to supply an email address. Then keep your business address only for those people that you know to be OK. I get spam from time to time, but dont mind as I have no mates!
