Flash floods leave seven dead in Murcia and Andalucía

Seven people have died in Andalucía and Murcia and hundreds have had to be evacuated as a result of the flash floods that have also caused substantial structural damage, including the collapse of two bridges on the A-7 and AP-7 motorways.

Referendum on Catalan independence looks set to go ahead despite being illegal

The president of the Catalan Regional Government (Generalitat de Cataluña), Artur Mas, told parliament today that he intended to call a referendum on independence for Catalonia even if central government would not authorise such a move.
