I have been informed by a usually reliable Spanish source that Taray has recently agreed to sell a number of properties in Hacienda San Cayetano to some local councils with a view to them being rented out or sold at a favourable rate to poorer Spanish families who can't otherwise afford housing.

Has anyone else heard anything along these lines?

Do you mean Social Housing!!!!

If so, takes the wind out of my sails!!!!

I could have bought in Torrevieja for a lot, lot less and been surrounded by British social housing!!!

Am I a snob or something, but all my enthusiasm has just gone!!!!

I wish to cancel!!!

I wish you and Laserman would. We are all  fed up with your moaning and groaning.

Many of us have had constructive help from solicitors and Taray. Yes we all want the pool but there is nothing new in what we have always been told. You cannot build without permission.

Well said!!          'heard directly'  'usually reliable' 'well connected'  ????

Will that Spanish source come forward and reveal all!!

I know that  every town and city in the UK and I expect in Spain have such people - that's how the Sun Newspaper sells so many copies followed closely now by the Daily Mail.

Let's keep a grip and focus on what we do know and not speculate or scaremonger on hearsay . There are many people now living the dream at San Cayetano and for a large proportion they chose SC to be a part of real Spanish life or they would have bought , for example, on a Polaris World Golf Site.

I have recently returned from a week in the area and did attend the meeting and did take part in the delightful fiesta in the village on Friday evening, one evening of many over the last couple of weeks .

That famous quote by Forest Gump - 'Life is like a box of chocolates'  hits the mark exactly. I personally don't like coconut but then it's a good thing we are all different . I guess that's what  makes the world go around and it certainly makes life interesting reading and taking part on Eye on Spain.

But please, please, please  let's not go down the road to Balsicas - excuse the pun - for those of you  who read their page.

owner 2 we don't moan and groan. We just want what we paid for along with probably another 20 people on this site. I too bought into the Spanish lifestyle at San Cayetano but with a pool and sports complex. If Taray advertised it then it should be there.

Your comment you can't build without permission In Spain. They should have had permission before they advertised it as part of the package. What you can't do is build on land you don't own. Its like trying to build an extension on next doors property.

I take it you have paid for your property,  wake up you have been done you can fight for compensation or just bury your head back in the sand.

I don't know about 'owner2' but we knew when we paid our 3000 euros' that the pool was still to be finalised. This we were told by Taray sales office. Our spanish solicitor confirmed that the planning permission granted to date only covered the properties. in phase one.Our solicitor advised to us that building requests regarding the pool etc.  and Phase 2 had been made but no decision had been rec'd from the town hall. On our last visit Taray customer services confirmed direct to us that they were cormitted to building a pool etc but again were waiting on the Town Hall .

Following on from these communications we were not expecting building work to commence for the pool until the 4 quater of this year and to be completed before the summer of 2009.  We were not interested in the timescale for Phase 2 as we were buying in Phase 1

Because we were advised by the solicitor that Taray had the licenses to build our property and that free title would be passed onto us on completion we were happy to continue with the deposits and payment programme agreed with Taray. I would hope that all solicitors would have confirmed to their clients exactly what Taray had permission to build and how it effected their ownership amd or requirements.

Costa calida expert - will you be able to find out from your source if there is any truth in these proposed sales to the council. When we purchased there were only about half a dozen properties left on the main site & most of  the apartments in the big blue block. If they are going to rent them or sell them cheaply do you think it would be in the apartment block rather than the villas & penthouses?

Do you think the council might buy my house at a reduced rate?

Hi

We have just returned from Spain, and we asked Helder (taray rep on site) about the social housing rumours.
He confirmed to us that in the far corner of phase 2, they are building a 2/3 storey high apartment block, comprising of 45 apartments which will be specifically for the less privileged - ( students, low income families etc ).
They will have their own private pool and facilities and will be gated and therefore should not affect the residents on phase 2 in any way. It is something that taray have to do by law, on every site that they build !??
He said it would probably not be built for another 5 years, and that it would also be about 5 years before phase 2 will be completed.  Sales are very slow, as expected, and they will be opening up the market to further afield countries i.e.Russia . That means a very long wait for the LFO !!!!    We are buying on manzana 8 due July 2009, and we asked when the LFO would be granted, and he said approx 7 months later, but as we all know from phase 1, nobody gets their LFO until the whole site is complete, so that will be in about 5-6 years !!!

Plenty of time to save up , and for the exchange rate to recover !!

Regards

Carol

Hi Carol
Did Helder confirm manzana 8 would be complete in July 2009? The sales office told me October 2009 would be completion for manzana 8 when I was out in April this year. 11 months is a very short time to built the properties, pool and green areas.

Hi Colin

Helder said taray were committed to completing manzana 8 by the due date of July 2009. They will try their best to achieve this, but there may be just 1 or 2 months delay. He also confirmed that the pool would be built at the same time, and it would be ready to use.

Carol
