New here... old to Spain

In the main forum a possible solution to exceptionally high air conditioning costs caused by rentals leaving on all day has been seen. Instead of considering a pre- payment meter which I believe has the potential to put off guests, this is a sensor which senses occupancy. The thread is to be found here and you then need to visit the website and click on room occupancy sensor.

I had a meter fitted several months ago.  The system works because €500 worth of cards are supplied with the meter.  We can then give cards to our guests to a level corresponding to "reasonable" useage.  Anything over and above that, they must purchase additonal cards for €10.  So far, no one has had to.   Fitted to protect abuse of the aircon.    Whenever we have stayed anywhere prior to this, the owner has said there is aircon but has neglected to mention the meter with the €1 coin slot and I feel it is this "careful" use of disclosure prior to a guest's holiday which causes the bad feeling

Suzi, can you tell me where you got this from and how much it cost to install, I am over on Monday will you be in Spain?

I thought about a meter and then remembered back in the days at Butlins/ Pontins and other holiday camps, the meter in the cupboard. I think that the meter may have the potential to put people off renting, but obviously have no experience to rely on. How do you market yours Suzi and how much do you consider to be an acceptable amount for a rental? Is the meter just for the air conditioning?

This sensor was touted on the main forum (well meters were anyway) and Marcus is trying to get one I can try to see how well it works. The problem could be (apparently), because the units fitted by Key Mare aren't particularly very good they don't have a soft start. This means the a/c units pull a lot of ampage at the start which could damage the sensor. 

If they come back to me about a trial, i'll let you know.

Antcon tried to send yoiu a pm but it would not work  so will have to go public.

Installation of our meter cost 99 euro and 50 euro for the annual contract including supply of 500 euros worth of cards.   We give guests 20 euro per week to use, simple and effecitive.  20 euro so far has been more than adequate., even with the aircon on   There is a 5 euro emergency button which gets deducted from next card and you can reset meter to 0.  

So far, its worked very well.  Hope this helps
