As you probably all know getting a signal off the Astra (SKY) Satellite dish is impossible with even a moderate sized dish, Local companies 'redistribute' Sky on the cheap, albeit with a high setup cost, it now transpires that Sky are making moves to close down these companies, whether this will close them down long term or not is open to question.
Sky does not own Astra 28.2E it uses the services on it, in the uk, with the 'launch' of Freesat, it will be possible to receive all free to air channels (as per freeview) It does not cost anything, you don't need a sky receiver, just a standard satellite receiver, High Definition is currently being broadcast by BBC and other channels are coming soon but you do need a HD receiver/decoder (these cost from c. £200 (or less?)
The community dish is too small to realign (it points at Astra18.2E) to 28.2 and get a signal and other members in your Bloque may well want to watch the total C**p and filth that it's capable of receiving. The big catch is the size of the dish needed, tentatively it would need to be at least 1.4m dia, ideally 1.8m in diameter fitted with a good quality lnb.
A friend down in Mazzaron has had a quote for fitting such a dish and all in would be around £600 (that's for a single channel lnb) and thats for a 1.45m dish (direct - not offset).
What I am proposing is that if sufficient interested residents of bloque 8 are interested It may be worth getting a quote. If we all club together it won't cost that much, we only need one dish and all interested parties would need to do would be to drop the cabling down to their apartment and purchase the tuner of their choice, I have already done mine through the trunking, which is not too difficult if you use some proper feeder wire. No subscription charges, no ongoing costs...Nada!
Could be discussed at the forthcoming AGM?
There is plenty of room on the roof for this bit of kit and although large shouldn't be even noticed from the ground.
Any interested parties, PM me
