NIE Payment

Hi all,

I know this has been covered before, but on browsing I couldn't find it.

Can you pay cash / Spanish Bank cheque / credit card for the NIE numbers.......or do you need a Spanish Bankers Draft?

Nick If you are getting them through Polaris, all the payments are dealt with by them but are charged back to you in the final payment.

If you are going with your solictor they will pay and you can pay them later - I think we paid 30 Euros for both of us with our Solictor - be warned its a scary experience going to the office in Murcia to sign your name and get the NIE set up !

Your mial intigues me......Scary experience!!   We are going with PW the day before completion.  I think they manage to jump the queues somehow?   I have already sorted out payment for the final element PW, excluding the NIE numbers, as I naturally assumed that was something I would pay at the town hall.  Maybe they will take cash or an additional cheque.  If not I will just transfer more money to my solicitor & ask him to pay PW with the rest.

PW should take out all of the "scary" bits.  If you go yourself you can be queueing for ages.  With PW they drove us there, took our documents, whilst we had a cold beer, then we walked in past the queue and it all took 10 minutes.

If you are with PW then you will be ok but it was a bit of a culture shock to us English !!

We went with our solictor who goes there several times a week  - the building is always busy and surrounded by a hundreds of immigrants from all parts of the EU looking for residence and legal approval to be in Spain

The NIE "office" is around the side  - there was a huge a unruly crowd queuing up (apparently the police often get called as fights and scuffles break out) Ironically I would guess this is largely because as the Polaris punters and others waltz to the front of the queue right under the noses of guys who have been there for a long time !

You enter into a reception desk where some very hassled looking guy looks at your passport and makes you sign your a sheet containing your NIE number - takes about 20 seconds and you are out  - the NIE proper normally follows in a few days.

Hi,

If you live near a Spanish Consulate you can get your NIE number there and it's free. We got ours from the Brussels Consultate, in and out in 10 minutes and received it in the post just over a week later.
