Hiya

I've just got our airconditioning fitted by polaraircostablanca following recommendations on the forum. We decided to go with them because they gave us the cheapest quote compared to all the others I had quotes from. The Panasonic units that we got are top of the range with E-ion which is an ioniser and air cleaner  which helps with asthma and allergy sufferers. We went for a 3 unit inside connected to a one unit compressor outside, which was a lot slimer looking than some of the older models you see in apartments.  The guy I dealt with was called Gary Leggett. Send me a PM with your email on and I'll forward you some quotes sent by him.

Regards,
Graham

Hi Pete & Ange,

Like Graham, and many others of us, we have gone with Gary from Polarair and installed the e-ion units. Take a look at the panasonic website http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/293413/index.html and download the domestic pdf brochure for more information.
Personally I would go with aircon but because the pipework is preinstalled, as long as you don't have a problem with this pipework, it should be easy to have it installed at anytime without to much mess.

Hope this helps

Hi Pete, Ange and Lewis,

We were there in July, and personally I'd say that airco is a necessity. I really don't think that ceiling fans would be enough to cool the apartment in the summer months when temperatures of 30-40deg are the norm.

It also gets quite chilly in the winter so if you didn't install airco you'd still have to install some other form of heating.

Like the others we went for Polarair and can also recommend them.

George.

We stayed in La Torre in July in a villa which had only aircon in the lounge at night the bedrooms were awful to sleep in they did have ceiling fans which only moved around the hot air.

Hi Pete & Ange,

For us it is essential!  In August we had no a/c until the builders power was turned on - it was like an oven - all that flat roof just soaking up the sun!!!  Soooo glad we had it installed.  We went with Polaris Homestyle's quote, a bit more expensive but was very easy to arrange from the UK.  If you go for it I would suggest the heat/cool option unless you are fitting another form of heating or not planning to use it in the winter.

If you have it in the bedrooms (which I definitely recommend!) go for the quietest units you can get.  the Fujitsu ones we have have a "super quiet" speed setting which is almost silent.  I've stayed in other places with cheapo noisy units and had to switch them off which kind of defeats the object!

Regards

Tim

I have to agree - I had a few nights in June and a couple in July without aircon, bought a fan (not a ceiling fan), but it was still very hot and sticky.  I love ceiling fans, have one at home, but don't think it would be enough in Spain.  The first night with aircon was bliss, and I think they are definately essential.  I also used Gary (Polarair), think I was one of his first.  Had some initial problems with the Polaris pre-install, but sorted it all out and was very pleased with both price and work.  The units fitted (3) are more than adequate, and the low setting is v quiet for use overnight.  The ones I have also heat, but this hasn't been tried, so don't know how effective they will be.

I would say definately worth the expense.

Ted

Hi all,

\we also went with Polaris Homestyle and paid out in May (we complete in Oct). Just had an email from Climazone quoting us for aircon as they recognised we were about to complete. No idea who they are or why they've got in touch as clearly the air con needed to be installed a long time before now.

Lewjesdan,

We were also considering fans in the bedrooms, however, we realized that there are 2 light fittings in each room close to the walls and not one central fitting as you would expect.  This made our mind up and we went for the AC units in all rooms.  We have an upstairs apartment on jardin 8 by the way.  I would check the position of your fittings before you decide.

Mark

anyone fitting aircon and letting should get a meter.let me know if youre interested as i will get a job lot done by a friend at about 100 euros for each of us.you keep the euros from the air con on which you make a small profit and your tennants will be more frugal.otherwise they leave the air con on and go out for the day and leave on all night.

Hi George,

We have literally just been speaking to Gary from Polarair with regards this subject and he has advised that it is illegal to fit meters. He suggested that  if you are renting just make a charge for aircon upfront. ie 20 euros a week or something like that.
Also gary advised that aircon with converters were not that expensive to run about 20cents per hour per unit and you would have to tinker with all the electrics which could cause problems in the future.

Sorry for the bad news but with all those coppers on site I personally wouldn't chance my arm.

Regards
Ali & Si
