Where does the PGA Professoinal Golf Association stand on this - Corvera/Roda are being touted as winter training grounds for the PGA, sureley they would not be endorsing such developments if the facilities and amenities are not completed for their members.
Has Calidona provided them with any assurances?
Any ideas?

I went on the PGA website yesterday and Corvera is clearly shown on their site as the European Team training ground and their central PGA Academy.

if they have signed this agreement which i thought they had , are they not then legally bound to build this hotel?
On a sideways thing note , though and I guess optimistic one - if they don't build the hotel but incorporate some facilities , does that not improve our chances of rental?
(Told you i was trying to stay optimistic!)

I would say having as many facilities on-site is always going to be the best option. The hotel was never going to accommodate huge numbers . I think it was scheduled to have 90 rooms and as was explained to me people staying at the hotel after their visit would be aware of the on-site rental options in apartments, villas etc for another visit. Any corporate connection i.e De Vere, PGA is crucial to maintaining the value of the development.
Would everyone feel better if they saw signed confirmation of their involvement?
I have asked Esther for proof of the PGA/De Vere signing.
I have again received messages from Esther and I have to say she is being open and forthcoming in her replies.
I've now said what I think is called for is an agreement for the owners..... a written and legal contract agreement as we have signed for the purchasing.
This agreement should clearly state the agreed facilities to be built with a schedule of build times.
I have left this with Esther.

The PGAs involvement was really my primary reason for picking Corvera over other similar style developments (albeit the whole package was obviously enticing). Speaking as a lawyer, if it didn't materialise both Calidona and PGA would be subject to a massive lawsuit for misrepresentation which would be very costly and hugely embarrassing, especially for the PGA who have moved from strength to strength in the last few years. Their Race to Dubai next year is so lucrative and appealing the likes of Mickelson, Villegas, Singh and a few other are considering joining the Euro tour.

Hi all - when was the PGA affiliation / commitment made? If my memory serves me right it wasn't secured at the time of the phase 1 and 2 sales (ie for the majority of sales).

We were told about it at the time of purchase unoffically. But even more importantly, we were given a copy of an article directly by Corvera staff showing the connection between the two groups one of the times we visited the site last year. So Calidona were openly advertising the association. At the time, the English girl in the office (whose name I cannot remember) said they couldn't "officially" advertise the connection beforehand, but now it is official.
But not to keep repeating myself, I don't believe, and never have believed, that Calidona are in any way suspicious. They are one of, if not the, most genuine group of builders in Spain. Like everyone else they are caught up in a downturn in the worlds economy. But they will have to provide a level of service at Corvera that fits the PGA headquarters or else they'll be in trouble, and not just from us.
If though there was one bit of disengenuous advertising sold to us, it was that originally it was sold as the new main PGA headquarters, whereas it appears that it is in fact the winter headquarters. Either way, that will entail a certain standard to be maintained. Hopefully.

Thanks for the responses.
Just a thought , perhaps the delay in building the De Vere hotel at Rhoda Golf has something to do with the PGA's own plans and time scales rather than the developer Calidona's plans.

With reference to the PGA Involvement, it would be nice to hear the PGA's opinion over the progress (or lack of it) with Caledonia.
Googling found the following sites www golfbusinessnews com which had a re-print of a press release, presumably jointly authorised by the PGA and Caledonia but Caledonis branded. This was on paragonireland com.
These show the announcement was made January 2007. I did see DeVere mentionioning their plans for Corvera in the financial press at the time.
The Jan 2008 PGA Europe Newsletter is certainly up-beat about Roda.
Any Golfing lawers out there with connections to the PGA and De Vere who can give us an update?
Apart from coming to the end of a low fixed tern mortgage at home and decreasing equity in our UK property, My main concern is that without the golf course and facilities opening before 2010, I'll be saddled with a mortgage and no income to cover it if we complete on our Phase one property in May 2009. Whilst a verbal contract is not worth the paper it's written on, there was significant expectations that the facilities would be in place at the same time of us moving in.
Mike.

Hi MikeandHelen,
We are owners on Roda Golf & i thought i would share our experience with you & other buyers on corvera.
We bought off plan on Phase 1 in June '04 , it was handed over to us Dec '06 around 6 -9 months late but nothing on the scale of the delay corvarians are experiencing, when we bought we were told that the hotel ,shops, bars etc would be up & running by summer '08 which meant around 18 months where we wouldn't have the facilities, we took this on board & managed to get quite a number of rental bookings in those 18 months from fellow owners who had bought on later phases going over to see there progress on there investment, unfortunately summer '08 has now officially ended & pleased to say that the clubhouse was opened in May & it is superb, the beach club opened in July again a very nice place to visit, now for the bad news ,we have had a hole in the ground where the hotel & shops etc are going to be for the last 12 months with no sign of them being started, so summer '08 will now be summer '10 if they started building tomorrow, calidona keep saying that planning permission has been granted, then they say they are awaiting a final signature ,then they say they have to wait 2 months for any objections, then they say they will start no later than Jan '09, that will mean a 6 year wait minimum from the day we put our deposit down, a long time by anyones standard.
So you can expect many start dates ,completion dates for various phases, hotel ,clubhouse etc , my advice is take them with a large pinch of salt ,if Roda is anything to go by i would be very suprised if you got any facilities before the end of 2010. Don't get me wrong we love the place & visit quite often but it is so so frustrating waiting for the rest of the facilities to be started.
Hope this puts you in the picture of how calidona operate.
regards
Dave & Lynda

Thanks for that Dave & Lyndy - I think that we are certainly in for quite a wait for the facilities ( assuming they will be completed), and it should be remembered that your wait so far has been through relatively good economical conditions, so what is the wait going to be like with the current economical problems ( many apartments not sold)?
You say that with the exception of the clubhouse you will be waiting a minimum of 4 years for the facilities from the time you took possession (with the emphasis on minimum), no one can know for sure but I suspect that due to the current economical situation that we will be waiting somewhat more than 4 years ( a ridiculously long time), unless someone from Calidona gives us some cast iron assurances otherwise.

Thats the problem ,calidona don't & won't give such assurances , with the current economical climate off plan buyers/investors are stuck between a rock & a hard stone, calidona will do things at their pace, any buyers who are relying on facilities etc to be delivered on time are going to be in for a rough ride, their investment might have increased slightly in value depending when they bought & if they have to sell they are going to have to do by taking a hit on their purchase.
On a positive note ,we were over at Roda last week & the golf course was very busy at the weekend with only 1 tee time available which is a very good sign, i haven't played any other courses over there but many many other owners/golfers have & they say Roda is superior to any others in the region ,so when calidona/de vere do deliver they deliver a very very good product.
If calidona do start building our commercial centre/hotel i am sure it will give the whole resort a lift & prove that calidona are in better shape than other developers .
I will keep you posted.
Ps i am back at Roda 15-22 nov ,if any coverians are their at the same time i am certainly up for a round of golf at Roda (20 handicap so no threat to anyone)
regards
Dave
