On Tuesday I could have had an exchange rate of 1.255 to the £ from the money shop. This has now dropped back to £1.237 yesterday. Wish I had bought some on Tuesday!

You can blame it all on the 'Tann' effect. I managed to chose the day with a record low to transfer over my final payment, we are going over on the 8th for a week to pay for A/C and order furniture etc so expect the euro to be low all that week. So if I were you I'd wait until the 15th when the exchange rate to bound to recover.
To keep on thread I got 1.252 on tuesday from RBS.

Just for the record, I went into the local Co-operative store in town and changed cash of £500 only and got £1.256 with no commision charge. When I paid for my Kitchen appliances last Thursday on my english credit card I got a rate of 1.27 which I thought was good!
Things look like its on the change again!

I used HIFX to change my final payment. I chose the rate I wanted and put in a buy order so that the currency was automatically bought if it reached that rate. I did this six weeks before my completion ( its next week) and after speaking to my broker we settled on buying at 1.28. If you have time you might try this, you can change your order at any time if it gets a bit to close to completion and you haven't got your rate yet. Saves you having to study the rate all the time!

timing is everything.believe it or not the euro £ had a 1.22 to 1.2650 range on the money markets alone on friday with a close near the highs.its bounced off 1.22 twice now .but the recent high at 1.3 looks tough to breach so i would take anything near 1.30 if offered.my opinion only, do your own research.

Exchanged my money last week with Smart and I got 127.5 so that was ok,depends how much you transfer the more the better you get a bigger rate
