Hi all, we were over last week and the bar prices are a bit steep, 4 euro's for a pint. What worries me is if you decide to rent your property this might be a factor that put's people off. I've been in work this week and when people ask me about it and look at the pictures i've taken they look really impressed until you mention the price of the beer, you then see a change in their attitude as if the whole complex might be to dear for them. I do tell them though that you can get a litre of estrella lager for 1.20 euro's from the supermarket. What can we do about it? The only thing we can do is if as many people as possible e-mail Polaris on their own website (owner's website) and complain about the prices saying it could affect rentals, i think they have a suggestion's box on the site. The more complaints they have, the better chance they'll reduce the price. Any other suggestions.
                                          Chris.

Hi Chris - I already tried that method and have never had a reply of any sort - Don't know if they fell out with me but I haven't been able to use it since - lol Perhaps we should start a petition and then copy and email customer services.

Hi Martyn and June, yes anything will do, as i say it's a worry because  it might put people off. It is an idea though to e-mail customer services, if they get a lot of messages in one day it might make them realise that they need to reduce their prices.

hi all.

i must agree that the bar prices are over the top especially given that the local beer is priced the same as the imported premium beer( heineken). on bottled beers they also have a limited availability and again all imported, nothing local.magners at 8.50 is way over the top in fact double price.i made a suggestion when over last week that while they have a monopoly they will charge what they like maybe in order to claw back something from supplying free electric and water.when outside competition comes in to the resort that will almost definitely change.as for the attitude behind the bar (or lack of it) it is a little bit understandable when the guy starts early in the day and is on his own until close.i did ask why on our first night he was closing at 10.55 without shouting last orders he said he was under order to close and have people out by 11pm.i and others were not very impressed and told him we had not any other option in our own development,he said he would talk to his boss. when we returned the next time he said his boss told him he could stay open until 12pm at weekends of which this one just gone was the first, by what people are saying this must not be the case.these two issues have to be resolved.........times must be extended for anyone who may want to go for an evening meal and the prices and choice of beers must improve...especially for all the spanish who have bought into it and who will not be used to the high prices....off season.... global crunch? who knows.

adios jake.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think it will make any difference!  We have been in quite a few of the bars on Mar Menor and La Torre and they are all expensive.

Having said that, I managed to justify the prices they charge because of the lovely surroundings and quality of the furnishings etc in the bars/restaurants - can't honestly say that the same applies to our bar at Condado.  I must confess to being slightly disappointed when we saw it on the 1st September, the day we were leaving and the day before the bar opened.  It seemed very white and plastic!!  I had expected much better quality furnishings etc.    None of the other bars at any of the other resorts are done out quite as cheaply -  it really does look quite tacky and is not a patch on facilities at the other resorts.  Thought PW could have stretched to something a bit more classy than white plastic tables and chairs - would expect to see these in a bar at Camposol, not at Condado.

Sorry for being a bit negative about it folks, but it just looks crap!  Hopefully our visit to Condado next week and get together in the bar will convince me that it's really OK and still a good place to meet friends and have a good drink!

hi payton

i agree it is cheap looking, almost clinical, but i think it is a short term solution to site a bar /cafe and will probably be used for something else to do with the sports facilities

Hi All

Firstly can I say that I agree with all the comments on this post and like others we have stayed at other pw resorts. When Foro is built, if it is the same as the other resorts, all the bars, restaurants, supermarkets and even the pharmacy are run by PW with managers installed. This means that there won't be any competition within the complex and only outside when the Oasis is up and running.

Maybe we should buy bottles from the supermarket and sit outside at the pub and see what reaction we get from the bar manager, if he queries our actions we can tell him why. If this happened enough they might just get the message.

Still look on the bright side, you pay 6 euros for a pint on the costa del sol and our place is better than that !!!!!!!!!

We're actually in jardin 7 this week so very convenient for the snack bar and supermarket...so much so that last week we ate at the snack bar 4 times and also skipped into supermarket to take some beers/wine back with us. I appreciate the white clinical look isn't to everyone's taste but I think it's pretty cool and the menu's okay (for tapas and light bites) and it was great to sit there and chill out with family talking about our day (hectic furnishing).....I think the true value of the apartments will be sitting outside the apartments to socialise.....meet at a bar and head back to someone's for the 5 euro wine and 1.20 beer.....maybe when supermarket beer is selling out, and the bars aren't a message will be received loud and clear!

Won't get any better competition when Oasis is built I'm afraid as Polaris own all the restaurants and bars on there, they were refusing to sell any food or drink outlets on there when we looked into the pricing of the units.

You must all get your Polaris Club cards to make it a bit more bearable, you get 10% discount on food & drinks in the bar/cafe.

HI All

I think we all seem to be forgeting, that we or I for one have bought into a concept of Polaris, from which on visiting the Polaris other developments seem to be rather upmarket and very stylish. A gated secure community, safe for everyone, with nice bars and restaurants etc.
I for one would not like to have bought on the developement not too far away, which I believe has a reputation for crime etc. ,which has cheap bars and cafes, if people wanted that sort of development then they should have perhaps have purchased there rather than on Condado ,
Has anyone thought of the poor residents either side of the temporary bar, I doubt if they would be happy kept awake all night by noise etc. .
Maybe they should realise how lucky they are, and stop winging about the price of beer etc. there is more to life!!!!!!
Polaris might not get it right all the time , but then who does. Lets just enjoy.

Hi salsdn,
I can agree with your view on the standards and quality level that we recognise from the Polaris brand and know where you are coming from regarding the place down the road. We will certainly still partake and enjoy the facilities as they develop. What we must remember though is that these first phases of the development are very much pitched at the 'ordinary people' level and there may not be an abundance of cash flying about for a little while bearing in mind the present economic climate. As far as being in Jardines 5 or 7 is concerned I don't really think people with a tendency towards rowdy and inconsiderate behaviour are going to change for the sake of a euro on a pint either way. I would be more worried about them being driven away from the bars and partaking in the cheap plonk in the surroundings of their own patios/gardens or the places they were renting. I think this would be more of a nuisance and worry for any neighbours.
I have stated on another post that I think you can keep your standards high and still charge a reasonable price for things. The last thing we want is to pop to the bar hoping to meet up with folks for a chat and find out the places are deserted. This can only end up with facilities closing down. I think the prices in the bars are pitched a 'holidaymaker' level or golfing parties where you are on a one off trip and just pay the price whatever. Thing is though, this is not what Condado is entirely about. A fair few people will be permanant residents and others owners  who get over as much as possible and they will cut their cloth accordingly. I would much rather go to a bar where there was a good vibrant buzz around because people were not avoiding paying OTT.
Just to be clear - you don't have to go cheap, just fair.

Regards,

I think PW have made the bar basic compared to other PW resorts because it is a stop gap until the Foro is finished. It will then be used for another sports based facility (cafe?).

If the Foro bars etc are not up to the standard of Mar Menor or La Torre then I would be worried about cost cutting.

Hi All,

I agree with Barry and Sue.  I'm sure its just a stop-gap and will be utilised as cafe or something for sports facilities.  Regards the prices.......... Give it time like everything it will balance out.

I'll be out for a week in Jan to shop for bits and bobs, in fact i might go looking for my own bits and bobs as that Arctic like pool had an effect , as for the bar, then its actually quite amusing that he's so miserable (think Farty Towels, just don't mention the war, que?), he must be bored out of his mind and will no doubt be suffering from something akin to snow blindness (for those who haven't been yet, you'll understand once you have), working in there would drive me mad ............. maybe i have

As for the prices, well business wasn't exactly brisk, and i don't think lowering the prices by 25% would have much affect as there were just so few people on site 2 weeks ago, and the weather was atrocious, i'd say its more the lack of ambience, but i do think its a ''stop for 1 drink after a game of tennis'' style place, or alternatively maybe temporary and become something else completely idc, maybe the promised gym !

Who knows........... I'll be happy on the €2.50 San Miguel 6-packs and the €4 Faustino  sat on my terrace waving at the locals as they pass by

Hi Shampers
What date in jan. are you going over? We are there from 24 to 29th.

Lynn and I were seriously thinking of taking the bar on. We intended to call it the 60 s bar  (not for the sixties or over) but to have 60s music (maybe 70s also) We thought of opening just 7 to 1 ish six nights a week. No food, no hot beveriges, as you pay a lower licence so the prices would not be too high. As I say we are only thinking of it. We help run a club bar so we have some experience. It all depends on whats happening here (jobs etc.)
PS There will be NO discount for E.O.S. members.only for lovers of PW.

                                                                                                              Dave
