Hi everyone.

I know that most of us head off to Spain for the sunshine, but we also enjoy skiing (not that we are much good at it!) and as we will be out in the apartment in early March we thought we might pack our ski boots and head up to the Sierra Nevada for a day (or possibly over night).

Just wondering if anyone has made this trip and what your thoughts are.

If anyone has any info. we would love to hear, especially what the roads getting to resport are like etc. and the best route to take.  I have looked at a number of Sierra Nevada websites but would value first hand comments.

We really love the idea of being able to ski one day and be sitting in the sun the next!

Pauline & Noel

Thanks.

I tried the link but the page wasn't available.  I'll try it aghain later.

I have looked at other sites for the Sierra Nevada and it all sounds fine.  We were planning to bring our own ski boots with us and just hire skis but what it would cost to bring them on the flight means it would be better value just to hire them with the skis at the resort.  Skiing for our level (cautious intermediate!) sound great.  Our main concern is access.  We are wondering if the roads are kept fairly clear as we will be in a regular hire car and were not really planning on a 4 wheel drive.  The alternative is to see if we can hire chains aspart of the rental  just in case!

We are not planning to stay overnight.  I think we will just try and get an early start and head up there for the day.  If it's not feasible then I'm sure Granada is worth a visit.  We'll put a posting to let everyone know how we get on, just in case anyone else might be interested.  Certainly one thing that attracted us to this area of Spain was the posibility of an occasional ski.

Thanks for that.

Have just tried again and managed to access the site.  It is really useful especially the advice about snow chains.  The resort looks great - plenty of the 'white stuff' at the moment and we'll check it again a few days before we travel.

Thanks again.

Pauline,

We have made the trip up to the Sierra Nevada in a day with no problem other than a long drive. If you set off early(ish) you should have plenty of time.

By the way you were fortunate that Martin Johnson stupidly told the referee exactly what we were going to do (slow the ball down) enabling him to prepare to use his yellow card so early in the game. In most peoples book tackling a player in the air warrants a yellow card!!!!

I'm not really compaining though and good luck to Wales after all they have a tremendous coaching team, can you see the connection now?

Best wishes

Denis

Thanks Denis.

If we decide to make the trip to Sierra Nevada, we plan to try and leave about 6.00am so that we can get maximum use out of the lift pass!

In the meantime.....................roll on Paris!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Pauline

Leaving that early will certainly give you a full days skiing which I'm sure you will enjoy. We left around 08-30 on a Sunday and saw next to nothing on the road which enabled us to make excellent time.

Do they do skiing in Paris?
