Hi Lynda,
Don't wish to appear to be hijacking your development but it's bl***y infuriating when people don't pay their community fees for no good reason. I know that we are all suffering due to the credit crunch, but everyone who purchases a property on a community knows that at some time or other after completion, they will have community fees to pay. Surely they factored this cost (albeit an estimate) into the monthly outgoings needed in order to purchase a second home in Spain? Or were they too caught up in the excitement, and merely overlooked this charge?
Whatever the answer, it needs to be paid.
What REALLY annoys me is when someone purchases a property then actively markets it for holiday or long-term rental, manages to get either a tenant or a holiday-maker who pay their monies directly to the owner, make use of the facilities (abuse them in some cases) yet the owner STILL fails to pay the community charge, despite having received an income from their property!
Now that is called "taking the proverbial...."
I have always opposed "naming and shaming" in case there has been a genuine mistake for apparent non-payment, but when I saw the list of debtors on our development, I was fuming, as I know that some people on the list are continuing to advertise their properties for the forthcoming summer season whilst still witholding payment of their fees.
I wish your development luck in taking these debtors to court and hope that you have a successful outcome.
Regards,
Lorraine Braid.
Thalassa.
