car hire

I need some help here, the other two times we have been out have been off peak and I booked a car for £120 plus. no problem. We have just booked our flights for 04/08/09, for a ten day stay and the car hire companies want anything in excess of £450 and upwards. Have I been naive thinking I could hire a car for a couple of hundred pounds, is everyone having to pay these ridiculous prices or is there a company out there that people are using that offer reasonable rates?

Dakey the prices are going through the roof, I just don't think there is enough cars about, this pushes up the prices.

I am out the same dates and booked 4 months ago @ about £250 which i thought was pricey, guess cars are very thin on the ground now :(

I've just had a quick search for those dates and the cheapest I can find is around the £440 mark for a Megane size car.

That's August for you and as mentioned, a relative lack of cars too.

I had a booking with Auriga Crown but went into panic mode when reading about cancellations, didn't want to turn up on a Monday night with no vehicle, so trawled the sites looking for a vehicle for 5 adults.  Basically if I wanted to pay £700+ I could have got something for 10 days in Aug.  Hubby not prepared to pay that much!  We have now ended up with a - wait for it - Berlingo!  £390.00.  So if you see a family of 5 squashed into this vehicle driving around Condado it will be me and mine. 

I used carhire3000.com who advised that there is a shortage of vehicles and they are not using Auriga Crown, we are now with Goldcar -another 1 hour wait in terminal probably on arival for collection.  Hey ho roll on Aug 3rd can't wait!

We had the same concerns with Auriga but they seemed to be a few good comments at the moment so went with them. Arrived here on Thurs night and no problems, only about 15 min wait where as the Goldcar queue looked a lot longer I'm sorry to say. Got to the front of the queue with Auriga and was offered a Golf turbo diesel for an extra 40€ for the 16 days we're here when we had only booked a Fiesta Fusion which I didn't think was bad so accepted. Don't know if this was because they had a shortage of economy cars but they had plenty of cars in the car park.

Shame we will miss you this time as we head back Aug 1st but looking good in Jardin 5, the place is getting busier for the summer.

Dakey just having a nose around and on Travelsupermarket they have a couple of offers for small cars from about £330, may be a worth a look if you haven't sorted anything.

This may work out for you Dakey - try Hertz.- worked for me only a week ago.

I managed to get a Mercedes A Class for just over £300 - to be picked up at Solmar desk in San Javier airport.

We are over at Condado at the moment. Booked 2 cars with Auriga Crown and was concerned about all the bad press they were recieving but glad we stuck with them. Arrived on Thursday, no queue and no problems picking up 2 cars.
