Hi Dave & Susan,
Just seen your message. We purchased back in July 2007, one of the best things we have done. There are many things that we enjoy about the apartments, the small size of the development, the location, its very peaceful even in the hieght of summer, and the friendliness of all our neighbours. We enjoy coming out to Mirador and do so as much as possible, even though at the moment its only during the school holidays, our daughters are 13 & 11 ( going on 18 & 16 ).
We own a first floor apartment with a roof terrace, great views and sun trap, in fact it can be too hot for some in July and August during the day, I love it though. There is a mixture of nationalities, Spanish, British, Dutch, Flemish, Finish not sure if there are anymore, but we all get on very well and respect eachother.
We as a family normally fly into Alicante and the drive takes about 35 mins. Its also about 30 mins to Torrevieja and Guardamar, where the beaches are fine, Torrevieja is a bit more commercialised than Guardamar, but both are busy at night, plenty of restaurants and bars.Towns close by are Orihuela, very nice medieval town which is about 10 mins drive, and Callosa de Segura, which is bigger than Cox and has more restaurants which is a 5 min drive from Cox.
Cox itself is a very nice and friendly town, good local shops for meat, vegetables, fruit and bread. Plenty of small local bars that sell tapas. Locals are all friendly but not a lot of English spoken, thats what gives the town its charm, but we get there in the end with a little bit of broken spanish. At the moment not too many restaurants in Cox, I think three or four, but I have heard that there are plans for more.
As for having two teenage daughters, if they are at the age of looking for a busy nightlife forget it, Cox is not that type of place. Most people at night spend there evenings having a meal out locally, or having friends around drinking the local wine, having a bar-b-q and just generally chiiling out on the roof terrace or verandah, thats what we go for.
We puchased through a small company, Pure Property group run by Ian & Vanessa Goodfellow, and they coudn't do enough to help us from purchasing to moving in, and since April 2008 when we got our keys they have helped us with all the utilities and any other help we have required.
Hope this has been some help to you, if you want any more information we will try to help. We actually fly out on 5th October for a week, to get that last bit of warmth in the bones before winter, and see our friends for a chat and a glass of wine or two.
regards
Ian, Jill, Louisa and Hannah
