I wonder what effect that decision will have on the big financial input agreed with the Chinese last year for the Chinese theme park in the Lorca area. Whilst it all has potential for a big improvement in employment and rental prospects in the region I'm not sure everyone will want the region to become another Orlando and unless they are all top quality, dare I say- Blackpool.

Hi Tony
Let's not put a downer on this, I for one really welcome this news, it would be fantastic for the region and for us. I would not be concerned about 'Blackpool' syndrome, when it comes to 5star...Disney wrote the book!

I for one would love to see a theme park of the type suggested which would hopefully regenerate the area. The more you travel around the area the more you see bars, restaurants and shops closing down. I went to Parque Mediterraneo in Cartagena the other day to see that even more shops have closed - a number of shops closed over the Christmas period but it is now very obvious that times are hard because there are stretches where there are more shops closed than open. Businesses are really struggling and I know a theme park would not help those who cannot survive at the moment but it will give a great boost to the area and hopefully attract more and better businesses for the future.
I am sure those of us who have bought at Polaris for investment purposes would also welcome a possible help with rental to at least claw back some of the purchase deficit.
Bring it on!
Anne Marie
p.s. I have been coming to Mazarron for the last 8 years and this has been a rumour for most of that time, so who knows.

I hope both sites come off, Paramount and the Chinese, the area is certainly big enough to accommodate both without having any detrimental impact on Condado at all. Only positive things will come out of these projects if they go ahead.
The title to this thread is misleading though as Disney don't own Paramount so mickey won't be there !!!!!!

Yes, sorry didnt mean to be negative. Just my first thought was wondering if the Chinese theme park idea would still go ahead given the huge amounts of money the region would have to contribute for both when the region is clearly struggling. Then I thought I hope they keep to the Paramount standards- but why ever not? It would mean a big influx of tourists and rental opportunities as well as jobs -and is obviously why the airport has been created in the first place and why somewhere like CdA has been created too. Remember the original plan was for the three golf courses with further Jardines, villa's and penthouse style apartments, shops, bars and restaurants around them all, with the Oasis too. So clearly planning well ahead at the time.
So as said below- bring it on.

Paramount own Terra Mitica, which is Spains largest theme park, just outside Benidorm. This is less than 2 hours drive from Murcia.
If they built in Murcia they would be in direct competition with themselves, which seems like bad business.
I really hope Paramount do build in Murcia, but I would imagine that if they did come to Spain, it would be more likely to be built on the Costa Del Sol, which has far more tourists.

Darren, I would imagine, in my very limited knowledge, that property / land in the more established area of Costa Del Sol would be vastly more expensive and less easy to come by.
I'm sure that the local governement, after spending vast amounts of money on new infastructure, would be keen to do a deal, to try to recoup some of that money and secure the future of the region, both with local jobs and the lovely tourists cashflow.
I for one, who has not purchased on CdA for investment only, welcome the idea of a Paramount playground, as i have young children who would love the idea of a theme park on this grand scale.
Chris.
