We completed Nov 08 and after spending time last year in the summer we know we need aircon and an awning this year. Can anyone give idea of costs what people have paid and currently paying . Thinking about 2 units ? one lounge and one main bedroom ?

Does anyone know the size of awning that is required for 3 bedroom downstairs N7.Looking on net  UK seems to offer very good prices? As I know you pay a premium in spain for this sort of thing. Help and advise please

Simon

Hi Simon,

For your aircon try Steve at Apollo Air

www.apolloair.eu

Good advice and prices.

We went with Panasonic Invertor units, they cost a bit more but give savings on the electricity used.

For our 2 bed we had a combined unit ( 1 outside  condenser and 2 indoor ) for the 2 bedrooms and then a seperate unit for the lounge. cost us €2,400 early 2009.

Phil

Hi Simon,

I got my aircon in N7-557 installed by Marin Diaz Climatizacion a local company from Fuente Alamo. one inverter unit for 600 euros, around 4.000 FGR. I did not have any problem in summer or winter to heat or cool the whole apartment, and it has worked perfectly since I had it installed in nov. 2008.

I think now that we have to pay electricity bills, it is best to get inverter units, and in my opinion, as the apartments are small, it is enough with one unit or two smaller ones.

Regards

Maria

I would recommend Tom at http://www.icrefrigeration.es/  Tel 679 341 795

He installed 2+1 Panasonic Inverter units last year for us without any issues in approx 6 hrs. He is based approx 40 mins away and came back when we had to prove a problem with a blocked duct to PW at no extra charge

He came recommended by a friend who works and lives up the coast.

Regards

David

Can someone please explain what an "inverter" unit is.  I need to get aircon installed before the summer.

Many thanks
Anne Marie

Here is a basic explanation of Inverter units.

A basic conventional system has a compressor in it just like your fridge.
This compressor basically has two speeds. Flat out and Stop.

These systems use a lot of electricity in these types of motors because it takes a lot of energy to start a motor from ZERO. And when your home reaches the temperature that you requested on your climate control thermostat the motor will turn off completely.

With an inverter Air conditioning system, these motors are designed differently. when you turn on an inverter, the motor will start up slowly so that it does not use a lot of power, then the motor slowly speeds up to full power on a sliding scale. This way the system uses less power to initially start up.

As the system gets closer to reaching the temperature that you requested in your home, the motor will start slowing down, thus using less electricity. And as an added benefit, the temperature in your home will remain more constant.

The end result is that the motor does not have to completely stop and because of this you don't use as much electricity.

We do have a graph that explains this if any one would like me to send it please e-mail info@apolloair.eu (sorry I do not know how to send it via PM)

The energy A rated inverters of all the leading brands are the most efficient to run, with running costs as little as 4-5 cents per hour for a typical lounge unit.

Steve
