Has anyone obtained their NIE via their solicitor using Power of Attorney recently? -  ours is requesting a copy of every page of the passport (all 32 pages) not just the pages with the passport details, which sounds a bit over the top.

regards,

Allan

I don't know if there have been any recent changes but we completed a little over a year ago and our lawyer only needed the photo page of our passports which we scanned and e-mailed over.

We completed January this year and all we had to copy was just the photo page of our passports

Hi Janet & Lee and Pumpkin,

Thanks for letting me know - it did sound daft for my solicitor to ask for all the blank pages to be copied as well.

Regards,

allan

I sent the photocopy of every single page of the passport as requested by the solicitor so he could apply for the NIE using the Power of Attorney. He tells me that when he went to the Police station they refused the NIE stating that the passport had to be notorised.

Has anyone very recently obtained an NIE via the solicitor using a POA and if so which Police stationdis they go to?

Regards,

Allan

Can't help with what police station as lawyer handled it all but just had a look at the copy I took of our POA and that specifically mentions the passports.  Having included both our passport numbers it goes on to say:

"The appearers show me and I give back the passports referred to. I certify that I have identified the appearers by their passports and they declare that they intervene in their own name and right ................................"

As the UK Notary signs the POA then by virtue that the passports are covered this should suffice.  If not your lawyer clearly needs to explain why .

Hope this helps.
