locks

can you buy the door locks for front door and patio doors in the uk and if so can anyone give me a idea on lock size and make?

The locks on the patio doors - and windows - in the penthouse we have stayed in are latches rather than locks and required adjustment to the part on the frame to make them secure. A small allen key was needed.  A spring inside the catch pushes the bolt up to lock the door. This spring was missing in both the patio doors in the main bedroom which I thought rather odd.

Is the lack of a spring action to prevent the door being inadverently closed and locked whilst on the balcony?

Maybe - I had not thought of that aspect but the doors to the main living room do have the spring. I would worry about security in that situation - the roller shutters are hardly robust.
