Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but we have had the first break-in at Hurchillo. It appears that No1 Phase1 was broken into at 12pm yesterday and sadly had most of their valuables stolen. Various theories exist at the moment, but I think this is just a wake-up call to us all.

Suggest that we talk to the security experts and try and do all we can to deter them as much as possible. The local security people who live on Olivia will be only too pleased to help.

More importantly please all just take care and keeps your eyes open.

Craig

Thanks for the information Craig, how did they gain entrance, was it  through the doors or windows, front or back, was it ground floor level, is it used as a holiday home and finally was the building empty at the time,

Regards Stan and Diane

It was the ground floor apartment. They got in by removing the front window grill. It is full time occupied by a Spanish lady who is also the Chair of the Phase 1 Community Group. The building was empty at the time, they had obviously been watching her movements and new when she was out.

Hi, all!

Kit and Peter here - Phase 2, No 25

This is disconcerting news.  We have just completed but have not yet moved in furniture.  We will be staying at Hurchillo from 21 - 28 March and would like to contact security people before then.  From what we have seen there is Kevin at Phase 1, No 5 and NGS at Phase 2, No 1.  Is this correct?

As the property is to be used as a holiday home only, security is high on our agenda and in view of what has now happened would appreciate advice and quotations to secure the property as soon as possible.  For privacy purposes my e-mail address is kitastrop@hotmail.co.uk.

Please keep us informed on developments on the above break-in.

Look forward to more encouraging news and meeting you all in March.

Best wishes

Kit and Peter

Very sorry to hear about the break-in at No. 1 Phase 1.  .   I suppose it had to happen at some time, although we all hoped that it would not.    My brother  had his house broken into here, and I know just how badly it affected him and my sister in law at the time.  Even the children were worried that someone was going to come into the house during the night and attack them     I know that most people have grills fitted and some have window locks and alarms too.    I would be interested to know what sort of grills were fitted to No. 1 as they appear to have been relatively easy to remove.   Is the way they were fitted at fault and is there anything that the rest of us can do to secure our grills in a better way to make them harder to pull out.      I believe that the fruit pickers have been blamed for break-ins in some area’s.  Is it harvest time in the fruit groves around Hurchillo?   As has already been said, we all need to look after each other as much as possible and any advice would I am sure be very much appreciated to help to make all the apartments as burglar proof as possible.   Over to either of our resident experts for any help they can give.

Regards to all   Carol & Mick (No.17 phase 2)

Hi all, we were wondering if there had been any news on the break in. We assume the police are involved. Are there any leads'? How is the Spanish lady coping with it all? Obviously it must have been a great shock and upset to her. We hope she's bearing up to it well and aware that her neighbours' are concerned for her. Carol and Michael.

Hi All

We have just discovered this web site and I may be able to anser a few questions as we bought in Phase 1 and have had the keyws for over a year now.

The villages are very upset at the breaki in.  The police are involved.  Kevin No 5 Phase 1 fits gills and is fitting grill alarms for anyone wanting them.  I dont know the price but I hear they are very very loud.  Also Casa Care do keyholiding for a small fee and check properties on a regular basis  They also provide welcome packs, cleaning etc. (See Kevin or Jim Phase 1)

Sue & Jim also have a little girl, who attends the local school she was the school's first pupil from the UK so Im sure they could help anyone out there who has questions.  There have been a few more UK intakes this year.

Regarding furniture, there are a load of shops who deliver, there is a big place in Los Montesinos called Sofa Land on the industrial estate, and they deliver.  They have two hugh hangers full for sofas and the one next door has furniture. In fact there are loads of shops, you can get anything.   We only got the esentials from Arca and bought the rest ourselves.  They are quite expensive when you compare with other shops.  We have friends who bought from Atlas in La Marina they paid quite a lot  extra to upgrade their furniture pack from Arca.  Carrefour, and Ardy in Torrevieja are good too.they sell just about anything and Ardy is like B&Q.  There is also a Yorkshire Linen Co otherside of Hermanos (next to Carrefour) and the markets are quite good for soft furnishings .

There is a bill due, something or another, but those without post boxe addresses, like us, will have to collect from the post office. in Orihuela. Its for about 90euros.  Wehave just heard about it, so we may have to pay extra as there will probably be a late fee added.  Probably affects Phase 1, but not sure.

We were out in December the pool doesnt look like its anywhere near finished, but you never know.  Also regarding photos.  Our estate agent (from San Miguel) sent us pictures of our apartment every month so we could see what was happening.  .Does Atlas, Iberian etc not provide this service?

It would be great to have a residents party once everything is finished.

Hope this has helped some of you.

Kim & John

Hello Kim and John, welcome aboard Eye On Spain. We found this site a few months' ago while looking at the Hurchillo site. I can't think of any subject that it doesn't cover. We've already contacted Kevin about grilles' I think we'll be looking into alarms' next. Iberian do give progress reports' and photos' of your property roughly every six weeks' but we havn't received anything since a few weeks' before it was completed. If it wasn't for the neighbours' showing their photos' we woudn't be so well informed. Regarding the mountain, it must be a lot higher than I imagined if it takes two hours' to walk up it. We both look forward to attempting it anyway. We agree it would be great to have a get together when all the building work is complete. Sounds like the shopping is good for choice and prices'. Apart from in Hurchillo are there many bars' and restaurants' in the surrounding local area? Carol and Michael.

Hi

Havent had a night out in Bigastro, but Orihuela is quite nice on an evening.  There are loads of bars off the main street too.  Understand there is an Irish bar there run by English couple, we havent found it yet  but my firends did!!!!   We usually get the bus in and taxi back. - Kim

Hello everyone

just new to the site and from what i have read it is excellent. I am purchasing through Iberian and the info from yourselves is a lot more than they give out. we are in phase three and can't wait to come out even though we have no idea how near it is to completion. Anyone have any info on the pool, will it be there this year?

Many thanks

Kev & Jess

John and Lynda Byrne

Hi, Moved into ours No. 50 phase 2  (overlooking the pool)  on the 1st Feb. back in England now but will be returning very soon. Can't wait. The "pool" seems to be the main topic of conversation apart from, that is, the "break in"  We were there when the break in look place. Everyone is now on their guard and looking out for each other. The buldozers moved onto the pool site whilst we were there. Aparently there was a problem with the water supply to the site. We were told that once the digging out starts it only takes a matter of weeks to complete. July/Aug was mentioned.

Regards John and Lynda

Anyone wanting pictures, just let us know or anything else that we may able to help with.
