Does anyone know and can recommend a good TV repair person in the San Javier, Los Alcazares area??? The problem being my neighbour has a barely 2 year old Samsung 40 inch LCD and it cannot be turned on by either the switch on the TV itself or the remote. Any info appreciated.
Steve.

Steve - this happened to our TV and it was due to an electrical "surge" burning it out! Have now bought a new TV and installed surge protectors. Hope this is not the case for your neighbour but thought it might help.
Regards

Hi Mair, funnily enough one of our camera chargers also popped and now will not work over the same period of time, so yes it could have been a surge. We have most of our equipment on surge protectors, ie, laptop chargers and the tv. Its also quite chilly here now and more of a demand for electric,so there could of been a kick through the grid. Hopefully he has now got someone to sort out the problem, thanks for the advise.

Have done some research on this and didnt have to look far. The problem is with the capacitors on the pcb, they are only rated at ten volts which is not sufficient and they blow. This is a very common problem with Samsung tvs. Quite an easy fix,buy capacitors rated at a higher voltage, but the microfarad and heat rating should be kept the same. These capacitors are very cheap and are available on e bay or any good electronics store. Remove back of off tv and remove the printed circuit board. You should then see the blown capacitors as the ends of them will be domed as they are designed to open up if they fail without literally exploding. Unsolder the old capacitors and re solder new ones in place, making sure the positive and negative terminals are correct. Then reassemble and it should be OK. Loads of information on the problem if you google it and even videos showing you how to do it,so hopefully if any one else has the problem, they could save themselves a considerable amount of money.

Steve & Anita, you sound like you know what you are doing! Our Samsung 32" still has a picture but the sound is just a loud crackle. We have guests in the apartment now who are complaining bitterly - do you know anyone who can repair this ASAP? Alternatively do you know anyone who can rent us a tv for a week?
