Have just been informed by our keyholder that our water meter has been stolen.
I know this has been mentioned somewhere before but couldn't find the thread, can someone explain the rationale behind these thefts, who should it be reported to and what are the consequences for owners?
Are the thieves quests, workers or locals and what is being done to prevent further attacks. So much for improved security, it appears residents and quests jump hoops to get on site but thieves seem have an easy time.
Its yet another knock back for owners, a sad state of affairs and ill reputes Condado.

Hi Raff
OMG! I have never heard of this before! Like you say "why would anyone want to do something like that??"
Where are you Jardines , Naranjos Penthouses??
Me personally I would contact the Administrars first to see what they have to say.

I really wish you the best in sorting this out Raff, and keep us posted on the outcome.

Raff,
if your meter has actually been stolen, rather than removed by Urbaser, then unfortunately if was probably by another owner who has not paid their water bill and has arrived to find themselves with no water and so has stolen another owners. Each meter has a unique serial number, so I recommend that you take a note of yours, Urbaser will have it on file.
There is a notice on the community website of the action to take.

I was looking for a thread on the subject, I knew I read about it somewhere and of course now realise it was stated on the community website.
Have e-mailed Urbaser and wait their reply.
Never thought of urbaser taking it, will need to contact my bank to check that the connection fee was taken out and also ensure that any bill was paid.( after the water leak we experienced, this could be the problem, may be I've jumped the gun too soon). Nonetheless the theft of any meter is a worry.

I WORKED FOR A WATER COMPANY IN THE UK, WHAT THEY MIGHT BE DOING IS PUTTING THE STOLEN METER ON THEIR PROPERTY FOR LETS SAY A MONTH, THEN WHEN THE METERS ARE DUE TO BE READ, THEY WILL PUT THERE OWN METER BACK ON THE PROPERTY, AND THEN THE READING WILL BE LOW, HENSE LOW BILL..

Phil,
As an update you were correct and as I have already stated, after reading your post, I 'may have jumped the gun' when I stated our meter was stolen.
It appears Urbaser removed the meter as the connection fee/ bill was not paid. When buying the property in 2008 we initially opened an account in Murcia, but later opened one with another bank in Mazarron as that was more convenient. Details had been passed to Polaris but it appears that they did not update this information and Urbaser were unable to collect their money.
By the way just to state that the keyholder said the meter was missing, unfortunately I assumed it was stolen since I could think of no other explanation and after reading of the meter thefts taking place as reported on the community forum. I think the advice there was to contact Urbaser and the local police.
Another lesson learned, but now I know I have to check that all other demands have been meet from our account so that further 'surprises' do not occur.
