All my family have got ear infections from our pool. 3 kids and my wife.
Does anyone know if there is any testing done on the pools
for levels of bacteria etc. As public pools there never going to be that clean,
but ours seems to be rancid?

Hello Ray,
Do you mind saying which block you are on. Or even which blocks surround your pool. I`m asking because we are on 3B and my grandkids etc arrived there last night.

Hi
I returned from Roda yesterday and swam in the same pool (I think) twice every day for a week. I always try to keep my ears out of the water as I'm aware of infection problems. At the moment, I do not seem to have any ear problems - and I am prone to them.
There has been a lot of use in the last week with children jumping in and splashing a lot. I also saw someone around the pool servicing it most mornings, but I'm not sure what they were doing. My daughter tells me the chlorine goes in overnight which is why we're told not to swim then but I don't know how true this is.
I agree that telling Housing would be good and if you don't hear from them then I would email Graham Rider. He always replies swiftly.

I agree with Pommers, pools should be checked regularly but there have been lapses, if you suspect any problems contact the Administrator or your President immediately.,

Hi all
We returned from Roda last week. While we were there my oldest daughter had a severe ear infection. We visited the pharmacy first who gave her ear drops which didnt work. We then took her to the private clinic where the doctor prescribed her an antibiotic and ear drops.
In our party there were 4 children and only 1 caught the infection. They were all in the pool at the same times and doing the same things.
I am certainly not a medical expert but this condition may be "swimmers/divers ear" which is a result of the ear not being dried properly or trapped water and obviously this can become a breeding ground for bacteria.
I certainly saw the pool being tested on countless occasions. We are on Phase 1.
Hopefully this is a coincidence as we are out again in August and don't want this to upset our holiday.

Hi All
We were over there 25th June to 5th July inclusive. Our daughter, son-in law and 4 year old granddaughter joined us for 5 days during that period. Our son-in-law and granddaughter were in the pool for long periods and our granddaughter also developed an ear infection around day 4 (diagnosed on return to the UK). Our son-in-law was OK. We are in Phase 1 Block 11 and use the pool immediately opposite our apartment.
We've also noticed the pools near us being treated and cleaned regularly, but with the number of occurrences of ear infections noted in this thread I guess we do need to question whether they are being treated correctly/adequately?

Hello all,
have just reported to Housing regarding this I was told that there have only been 3 complaints, regarding people contacting infections from pools. Please if it has happened to you, will you contact them and let them know so that something can be done.
If they are not aware that a problem exists then nothing will be done.
Margaret

Hello All,
My son in law, daughter and 2 grandchildren arrived back from Roda on Friday night. He had an ear infection.
They were on Phase 3 and used their block 86 pool.
If it helps anyone the doctor said use earplugs, but interestingly, as I did not know this, put a drop of olive oil in each ear after using a pool, as that will prevent infection. Seems a bit strange but that is what he said.
Regards,
Frank

"Swim Ear"
We are on Phase 3, and we are going over in September. We have 2 children and have never had any problems with ear infections since we started using "Swin Ear". We use it every couple of hours or so when the children have been in the water (we also use it). We dry our ears and get all of the water out, put in a few drops of "Swin Ear", let it dry (it's alcohol based), and it dries the remaining water left in the ear. We have "touch wood", always been OK and have had no problems, try it and see, you can get it from Boots or any good Chemist's, and cost around £3.75.
Hope this helps.
I appreciate it could be more serious than just being able to use "swim Ear", but it's just a suggestion.

Hi
I agree with Margaret's suggestion that we all report incidences to Housing.
We too have had problems with ear infections this year, and also in previous years. I presumed that we were just prone to ear infections so I hadn't thought of reporting it to Housing.
I have now written to housing to explain that this is a recurring problem and to ask them if the Pool Maintenance company can do more to minimise the risk of infection.
Hopefully others affected will do the same and hopefully something can be done about this.

having spent time in hospitals in portugal cyprus and spain when our kids were little, with ear infections the usual cause, someone in a waiting area told me - for every time you swim in a pool try to swim in the sea. We did, and still do and touch wood, haven't had an ear infection in our family for 25 years.

We are on phase 2 .just been to housing to report our annual ear infections, though they said regular testing was being carried out.we told them we had been holidaying all over europe for 25 years and only ever got an ear infection when we started to come to roda.I further suggested the increased unauthorised use by non residents would not help the matter.....

having done a lot of swimming (competively) in my teens - I was always get ear infections. But have never had any problems at Roda . . .
Until this year. I now have a bad ear infection that I cannot shift as I am allergic to penicillin and nothing else is shifting it.

Are you saying that Phase 2 pools were suffering from unauthorised non residents/tenants using the facilities?
Was no one checking on armbands?
To all concerned owners, I repeat a previous posting that I have checked pools in Phase 2 on a number of ocassions earlier this summer and found chemical levels are not always well maintained and have passed this information to Housing regularly.
I am told they have acquired a quality testing kit and regular checks should be being made.
If this is not the case, I repeat please report any concerns directly to Housing with copy to your President if you suspect any problems with pools.
Please do bear in mind that some individuals are indeed more susceptible to infections and may possibly need to use other precautions such as ear plugs when using busy pools.

Hugh-man - I went for a quick swim last Sunday to cool off after doing our change-over and forgot my arm band. Someone went and found Gregorio and ratted on me and he came and challenged me. So it does seem to be working.
I haven't seen anyone without an armband - except me!
