Hi Christine

We are in San Cayetano this week and took a drive the other day to find the best route. It is 30k from us to Corvera airport and the quickest way is straight up the C3319 then join the A30 Murcia road going towards Cartagena from which there is a dual carraigeway which takes you straight into the airport. It took us 25mins to drive it.

We believe that once it is fully operational San Javier is going back to being just military.

Hope this helps

Jan

Not sure that is bad news - I always think San Javier is a nice " family friendly "  sort of airport.  By contrast Alicante is a chore; you could get lost getting from the car park to arrivals - and again on the way back and I imagine Corvera will be much the same. Seeing that improvement work is still in progress at San Javier I wonder if there is some though that it would continue, in a smaller way, to handle civilian flights. The landing and handling fees would surely help offset the costs to the military operations. And, on a selfish note, I like the view out the window on the approach to San Javier - though I doubt that will carry much weight with the powers that be !

Some interesting news about Cotvera airport in the Eye On Spain monthly digest. The idea that it could be handed over to the military makes sense in view of the ongoing improvements still being carried out at San Javier. And the comment that the terrain and there being only one runway making it unsuitable for big transatlantic aircraft is bewildering.
