Darren is right -- (my god, did I really say that, slap, slap wet sponge). Spain has some tough times ahead that will make our own problems in the UK seem pleasant. For the ordinary Spanish they will see somewhere near a 50% reduction in their income over the next couple of years after being used to an over heated economy and false wealth based on the construction industry. That will hard if not impossible to swallow for many.
For us, I've said it before on this forum and will again. We are starngers in someone else's country no matter how well we know it. We will be considered rich and stand out from the crowd and that makes us easy targets.
Our complex is pretty secure and secluded which was one of the main reasons I bought there and it is now when we see civil unrest looming that we will get the benefit of that. However we must make sure that security is maintained and even increased.
The other thing to consider as I have thought it for a while when visiting Murcia in particular, the time is coming when parts of the larger cities will become crime havens with groups of people loitering waiting to 'roll' a visitor who is displaying obvious wealth and seeming not to acknowledge the strife that the locals are going through. In other words flaunting it. Not something you immediately think about whilst sat around the fantastic marina in the port looking at the million dollar yaughts is it? I work in the Community Safety world at home so I am used to dealing with these types of issues currently in some of our large towns and cities and I would say that the problems could be far more acute in some parts of Spain that the Uk.
So the point behind this comment is not to poor cold water on what will be an amazing summer on CDA I am sure, but more to remind residents of CDA about their own vulnerability when visiting unfamiliar locations and to think safety first. It is a sad fact of life that we cannot forget. In times of adversity it is human nature for some to commit crime and make others victims - just don't let yourself become one of them.
