I agree - that is excellent news! Now, what would be even better would be if they illuminated the underpass as well - it would make a much safer trip for all of us who don't like mountain climbing!

Yes - but would you really like to brave the local drug dealers & thugs in the underpass at night?
They'd still use it even with lights on.
Stick to the road and hone your mountain climbing techniques. :)

Hi Hevs
The reason that two of the lights are taller is because they are the ones directly next to the motorway and they have to be taller to give a better expance of light given that there is no way to erect any lights directly over the AP7 section of the bridge.

A warning to those that dont live here permanently or to those that dont know this already. There was a nasty incident in the winter in the vicinity of the underpass which I will not elaborate on.It is therefore not advisable for women to go under it either on foot or on a bike in the dark. Stick to the road now we have some wonderful street lighting (and get knocked down instead)

After hearing this I think we will start taking the hill all the time or even a taxi...
Are these levels of crime common now around the area? This message was last edited by mmbc on 14/05/2012.

Where there is huge unemployment there is, unfortunately, likely to be more crime as people feel the pinch.
Street crime is becoming more prevalent all over Spain.
Our once quiet village in rural Spain - where people used to leave their doors wide open - is now also starting to be affected.

Is the underpass not just a storm drain? If so, presumably no money will ever be invested in making it a viable alternative to going over the road, which is the only conclusion I can draw from the awful state of the immediate area surrounding it.
Thank you jennywren for giving us that warning, I believe this isn't the first incident involving the underpass,, but guess common sense is needed when deciding whether to go over or under the road. We cycle (quickly) through the underpass in the daytime and saw a very undesirable character there a couple of weeks ago who was sleeping rough. We always go over when it's dark. I would never use the underpass alone. Of course, it's completely ridiculous that access from Roda is so unsafe, whether over or under, but lights can only be a good thing.

The underpass certainly is a storm drain and not really designed for people to use as a short cut.
We always advise our clients not to use this but to go over the bridge even though this can be a little frightening at times.
