Whilst we were over at our apartment during the summer, (Jardin 3) we learnt that we are no longer "allowed" to have an umbrella by the pool. It does not seem to make a difference if the umbrella is fixed into a base or fastened to the permieter fencing with a bungee rope. Apparently, when we went to Millenium to discuss the issue this rule has been in force for some time (obviously missed that one somehow) We were told that 'the community' does not like to see lots of different umbrellas up round the pool, hence the decision being made. We logged our objection and were told that the more people who logged their objections, the more chance there may be of this decision being overturned. We were were told by Millenium that apparently, UV tents for babies are acceptable but someone in our garden had been asked to remove one only the day before.

Can anyone shed any further light on this?

if that's the case they need to plant more trees ,some pools have a lot more protection then others i have also been told that the president on jardin 7 phoned security for  them to remove a children's uv tent from the pool area the guard even looked inside the tent  that's what i call top security

it shouldn't be a cosmetic issue its a safety issue

or just put the children straight on the bar- be

I can't believe a childs safety from the intense sunshine is not been considered here. My son has a full body suit but he is very fair and can't believe what I am hearing here.

There was someone using a tent  to sleep in the general garden area some time ago -March that after a while security was asked to move it.  The president did not ask security to remove a childrens UV tent from the swimming pool.  Goes to show how rumour gets twisted to suit the agenda of someone out to make trouble , always be careful repeating what you hear.

I believe one concern with umbrellas was that there are underground pipes and if an umbrella are spiked into the ground then it causes damage. There has been lots of discusion about shade around pools. Some are in favour of providing wooden/straw type umbrellas  - some not.  Plain white not coloured shades that fasten to chairs should not be an issue .

Of course there are many who can't understand why anyone would want to roast themselves in the sun anyway.  Heard the expression "gambas a la plancha"?    Prawns on the hot plate . So there is an opinion that you should not spend too long in the sun anyway.

Personally I believe  community provided shade is the only answer. Then it will the issue of sunbeds at dawn grabbing spaces. There will always be a problem to resolve.

so you know that the president or his wife did not ask security to remove the tent hows that then ?

i was told by a number of people and personal friends that they did , and it was Aug not march

i don't care about who ever called security  but i do think children should be allowed shade and don't think its up to you when we go out in the sun David

the use of straw sun shade was brought up some time ago and is needed surely theres enough in the pot to do this now.

Apparently there is not enough money in the pot, we in penthouses 1,2 and 3 have been campaigning for a seat a bench anything to sit on as we have nothing and have have nothing for the 3 years that we have been owners we have badgered M.L the presidents constantly only to be told there are other things that take priority, we all pay our community fees and everything else that is required so I think we should be first in line for anything that is in "the pot".
And I think the rule of no umbrellas on a base that is ..is totally ridiculous if they are that worried about the aesthetics then they should get rid of some of the crappy monstrosities that folks have on ther roof terraces that can be seen from Ali sodding cante.
Rant over sorry

Hi All

I have just returned home and someone in our pool who had a 9 month old baby was told to remove a UV tent she asked if they could wait until baby had woken but the security man made her wake the baby and put down the tent.

Her husband went to the office and they said it was not their rules it was from the security company but surely we are paying them to do a job for us so we should have a say what is allowed around the pools. We asked for straw fixed umbrella but were told no.  I feel there is not enough shade around the pool areas.  Even if you are down there for 30 mins in the sunshine you need some shade especially for children.

Thats just my thoughts.

I suggest you escalate ths to our level 1 president for comment because where children are concerned this is not acceptable in Spain's intense sunshine. I have a baby myself and common sense surely indicates that protecting a baby from the sunshine is paramount. I personally don't take my baby to the pool until after 5 but even then it is very hot.

Dringman I have heard the story as described by Skell quite a few times - not everyone can be wrong. You may live on Condado but with the greatest of respect you don't know everything that goes on at CDA.

It’s the new level 1 lady president who is one of the main people responsible for the rule of no umbrellas in the pool area, she says, she doesn’t want to look at the pool area full of them and if the sun is to hot go in your apartment.
I know this as I asked my president about it and he informed me of her opinion and that she was not prepared to have the matter re considered.
She is entitled to her opinion but she is just an owner just like the rest of us.

The pools are not big enough areas to cater for everyone spending the day there with loungers and umbrellas.  I know our pool area in J13 was packed on many occassions and that was with the many of us merely putting our towels in a heap on the fence/seat and not lying down at all. Although I have to say there weren't a lot of umbrellas.

But I'd like to see a practical approach taken to rules that don't affect safety of others.  If someone has an umbrella and there's no one anywhere near them it seems pointless to get them to put it down...but if it starts to look the beach I'd be in agreement.  Because then you get people holding areas of the pool while they travel back and forth from their apartments during the day.

Kids things are different as it is a safety issue and any reasonable shade for a baby should be allowed.

i agree about shade - we just need to agree on a suitable type. This is why trees have beeen planted - just letting you know who you should be talking to. Mick sent out a list of Presidential duties some weeks ago  so just going by that.  L2 make a lot of decisions  , I feel L3 s have little authority on here .

Does L3 have a budget for their garden that could be used for suitable shade?  Majority would need to support it. Understand your opinion but you have to realise not everyone holds it, hence my comments about not everyone thinks you should spend time sitting in the sun Medical opinion tells you not to do it for long periods . Understand you want to and protection essential but don't assume everyone holds your opinion. Why do   some people need to make everything a personal issue. Have you never been in politics , studied politics or taken part in a debate . ?  If you don't try and see the other opinion then you will never win your argument by reason. Once you resort to personal attack you have lost . No matter how good your argument is . Might is not right!!

"Once you resort to personal attack you have lost . No matter how good your argument is . Might is not right!!"

Perhaps someone ought to tell Mileniun that then!!!!!

They are the ones that launched a personal attack on the old L1 without any facts and with very little truth.

I had heard this also I think this is a matter for residents to decide surely protecting babies kids and elderly people should be more important that what something looks like these people don't sound very caring im sure umbrellas are only used when extremely hot! I myself used to use umbrellas and uv mini tents for my kids when they were younger why should these families be told to stay inside especially if you have older children who want to play in the pool this would be spoiling their fun! For gods sake these people are being ridiculous this is totally over the top!!!
