Commute to Gibraltar

Hi,

I am after information on commuting to Gibraltar to work on a daily basis from people who actually do this.

I know when we have been it can take a long time to cross the border and I wondered how much extra time this adds onto your working day.  Or are they more relaxed when workers are crossing rather than tourists?

Is it better to park on the Spanish side and walk across?  Is it expensive to park or can you purchase a yearly ticket like in the UK.  I know there is public transport and wondered if anyone actually used this. 

I have registered with agencies but am wanting more information before I actually commit to an interview at this stage.  I would like to know as much as I can before I decide whether to take this to the next stage.  I intend to meet directly with the agencies on my next visit and would like to be armed with all the facts.

It may also be that people car share from the village but I guess I can post something if I do decide to move out there permanently. I would need to source a car first!

I live next to Duquesa Village and travel into gib everyday.
The drive takes around 25 minutes and I park by the border on the Spanish side for 1€ per day.
It is easier to walk across the border and there is a bus the other side that will take you into the town centre for £1 each way or £6 for a 10 trip ticket. I walk most days as it is all flat and fairly pleasant.
There isn't too much of a queue for cars in the morning, usually just 15/20 minutes. But at home time it can be easily over an hour most days, so I always leave the car on the Spanish side

I go past your roundabout at 7:45 every weekday. So if you need a lift until you get a car just let me know. Of that is too early for you, the bus runs every hour down the bottom of the hill by duquesa golf hotel. I have never used it but I have heard it is ok.

What sort of work are you after? Maybe I can help. Agencies tend to prioritise the people that already live here. I found that when I was looking for jobs before I moved here.

We commute to Gib every day and takes about 30 mins. We park in an underground car park opposite the border and it costs €96 per month. You can park cheaper on waste ground next to the border but we like the security of our car park so pay the extra for a bit more peace of mind. Also the car isn't sweltering hot in the summer months!

With regard to agencies here, in my experience if you don't pester them then you don't get anywhere! What industry/ profession are you looking at? Let me know and I may be able to offer more advice if it is one I am familiar with.
