Has anyone noticed how expensive the flights appear compared to the last four years. Any idea why that might be and if the opening of Corvera in a few months may prompt some summer bargains... I am a bit hesitant in booking at present as are other friends who rent from me. Flights as much as double last summer with ryanair????

I agree with you. My friend works offshore and used to go over every month or so but no longer does as the bargain flights have all but gone. I used to go out 3 times a year but now only once a year. I think ost people feel the same way. Scotland rarely gets super cheap flights anyway but now it's worse than ever.

Depends if you are stuck to school holidays as we are - cant really believe flight operators are still able to bump the prices up so much when people with children have no choice !!

Flights are very expensive this year. Ryanair have dropped a lot of flights as part of their dispute over airport charges until they get their way making San Javier almost redundant. Covera may make a difference but not this year. It is possible Ryanair might be looking to negotiate better rates at that airport forcing Alicante into dropping demands over the use of air bridges..
Last year we could get return fares from Manchester with Ryanair for 2 people for under £90 all in. Not a sniff this year with prices at roughly 3 times that. Some people talk about managing to get ridiculously cheap flights still but I seriously doubt that.
Some years are better than others based on demand and fuel costs. One things for sure, the old policy of waiting for last minute bargains is no longer possible. As Fred Pontin used to say 'book early' to get the best prices. Jon Faulkner.
PS Christmas or new year flights are around the £300 mark now and will increase!

Will keep an eye out over the next couple of weeks. I normally fly with ryanair but ema to alc has jumped up from £500 last year to over £800 this year (massive jump). They do change daily though both up and down. Usually up though unfortunatley.

Two years ago Easy Jet was the best priced for me. Last year Ryan air by a country mile and this year so far it is Jet2's turn to be cheapest. All are now capitalising on getting you to pay for booking a seat which mounts up. We wait for Corvera to shake things up a bit but I estimate at least a year from opening before we start to see how airlines restructure their schedules to take this into account. JF

Flight cost will surely go up and up in the years to come unless you look for cheap flight sources, it will be difficult to look for cheap airfare. Because of this, I only use Flight Fox in looking for cheap flights, thesmartbusinesstraveler . com /flight-fox/

I suppose weve all been spoilt by the low cost airline boost over the last 10 years. Easy Jet , Jet 2, Ryan Air If you go back to the days of Dan Air etc etc you would have paid a hell of a lot more Alicante Return at least £300 return.
Just checked it out Newcastle to London on the train return £353 return and thats just second class. First class is £500 +............ now dosnt that make you feel better about a place in spain. ??

I source flights with Skyscanner, they compare all the airlines and dont charge a fee.
Give them a go!
