Hi,
Some friends of mine are visitingh my apartment in Sept for a short honeymoon break. They have asked me what attractions, things to do and restaurants there are locally to see/visit when they come. I dont know the area outside of the complex all that well. Can anybody give me some ideas?
Thanks

Antipods Tavern in La Azohia is a must for restaurants. bit of a drive but well worth it. Must book for evenings.
maybe a spa day at Mar Menor?

Try mazarron.co.uk which is a website I've found which lists some attractions including the guns of mazarron, as well as the tower at Aledo and the Santuario de la Santa which is just down the road from Aledo. We've been to all three of these as well as others on the website.
As Rich said the Antipodus restaurant at La Azohia is lovely, but we've also tried a couple along the way there at Isla Plana which were fab too.
If you scroll back through this forum you'll see loads more suggestions, just can't think of them off the top of my head at the moment!

If they are hiring a car, Cartegena is always worth a visit and is about 45 minutes drive
It's a city with a lot to offer in terms of architecture, shopping etc and has a lovely harbour that offers boat trips most of the year

Depends what they enjoy.
If they like more action and 'fun' stuff, there is clay pigeon shooting at Pinilla, go karting just down the road from the resort, Quads/kayaking at Hotel Mariposa. the sunday horse flamenco show at El Saladillo, boat trips from Puerto mazarron will probably still be running then too.
La Caverna is a nice (meat eater) restaurant in Los Ventrillos (they do a pick up service too). Restaurants onsite should be enough for a short break really!
Promenades at Bolnuevo and Pto Mazarron worth a stroll down.

We have enjoyed a game of mini golf the last few times we have been over. Good fun and a nice snack bar with reasonably priced drinks and snacks. Its down past the Mar Menor golf resort in the industrial site, past the polaris garden centre.

Boat Trips from the port:
We used CostaCalidaFishing for a fishing/sightseeing trip a few years back - fab but now he has retired as far as I know!
In July & August we always book with Go-n-Sail - located on the promenade at Pto.. good value snorkel/sightseeing sailboat, really nice couple who own the boat.
We tried Solazlines and although they were friendly - there were not enough people to make the trip viable (we did get on the boat which was very nicely laid out and clean).. Hopefully - we will try again at a busier time.
Would love it for someone to set up an all year round, reasonably priced, fishing/sight seeing/snorkle experience but I guess there isn't enough need for it...

We have done the old pirate boat trip from Cabo de Palos if you fancy the drive to La Manga. Good value and a chance for swimming off the boat but the captain spoke no English and health and safety left a bit to be desired! www.djinncharter.com
