Hi Elaine
I wonder if this thread is for me as I tried to arrange an order of Furniture from Indonesia.
Though many people ( Around 50 in total) were initially interested & most placed an order for me to find out a total cost. Once some realised (& I did state on many occasions that there would be import costs to be added) their orders were cancelled. This meant that I could not fill a container & as this then meant additional costs for the empty space I chose not to go any further which was a great pity. As I did not think the new total cost could be justified @ that point.
We ended up purchasing a Large corner unit in an half price sale in February. Am I happy. No I hate it & doubt if it will last more than 2/3 years. Every shop we went to irrispective of material would NOT guarantee that it would last more than 3/4 years.
Though the initial cost of the indonesian furniture would have been as much as they would pay in Spain, & maybe slightly more for some the items. The furniture would have lasted for @ least 10 years. Nothing you buy from either Spain or the UK will stand up to the differing weather conditions & wear & tear for that long here.
I have three mutual friends (we wre all "Dolly Birds" in the 70`s, Oh where have those years gone) who each now live in sunnier climates. Carole in Majorca, Georgina in Alicante & Tina in Florence. They all bought 7/9 years ago years ago via a company in America.Their furniture is as good as when first bought & are left outside all of the time. Unfortnatly it closed down about 6 years ago. shortly before we bought on Condado. I have searched for alternatives nearer to Spain but there is nothing that compares to the quality. Rattan is fine if it is in an enclosed area during the colder & wetter months & does not have direct weather conditions like the roof terraces in the Jardin Apartments.
